Vermont town seeks Bush, Cheney arrests

By DAVE GRAM, Associated Press Writer 6 minutes ago

President Bush may soon have a new reason to avoid left-leaning Vermont: In one town, activists want him subject to arrest for war crimes.

A group in Brattleboro is petitioning to put an item on a town meeting agenda in March that would make Bush and Vice President Cheney subject to arrest and indictment if they visit the southeastern Vermont community.

"This petition is as radical as the Declaration of Independence, and it draws on that tradition in claiming a universal jurisdiction when governments fail to do what they're supposed to do," said Kurt Daims, 54, a retired machinist leading the drive.

As president, Bush has visited every state except Vermont.

The town meeting, an annual exercise in which residents gather to vote on everything from fire department budgets to municipal policy, requires about 1,000 signatures to place a binding item on the agenda.

The measure asks: "Shall the Selectboard instruct the Town Attorney to draft indictments against President Bush and Vice President Cheney for crimes against our Constitution, and publish said indictment for consideration by other municipalities?"

The White House did not immediately respond to requests for comment Friday. The press office did not immediately respond to an e-mail.

Support for the measure is far from universal, even in Vermont, where the state Senate voted earlier this year to support impeaching the president. Anti-war rallies are regular occurrences here, and "Impeach Bush" bumper stickers are common.

“I would love to watch the officials of that town try to enforce it during a presidential visit. They would find themselves looking down the barrels of several automatic weapons of the Secret Service and then get arrested by the FBI.”

Actually the Secret Service would do the arrest.

But I bet every member signing that petition has a file started with either the FBI or Secret Service since people like that tend to be one step removed from becoming an oswald or hinkley.

Vermont is not unsual in having such a Constitutional Provision, but rather in obeying it.

“That the people have a right to bear arms for the defense of themselves and the State as standing armies in time of peace are dangerous to liberty, they ought not to be kept up; and that the military should be kept under strict subordination to and governed by the civil power.” Chapter 1, Article 16.

LOL! Forget about the back-up. A well-armed VP with his Perazzi shotgun should do the trick.

“Why are we afraid to demand these things stop, and that democrat politicians denounce and disavow left wing insanity?”

Because even most self-proclaimed conservatives embrace the premises of liberalism, though it is seldom a realization. They are inculcated from public school, or even in a liberal church that teaches deference, as opposed to the gospel.

Espousing conservative views does not make one a conservative. One must understand their tradition/heritage, and love Truth, which is usually arrived at via a combination of Reason and Faith. This is the narrow path, and not only is (metaphysical) sloth no longer punished, but “heavy lifting” is seldom rewarded. Thus the incentive must come from within — a very difficult thing.

I am wounded by your “nyuh-uh”and I will not make fun of you for actually writing "touche".

Look pal, all you have to do is READ some of the other comments on this thread to have enough “evidence” that supports my claims and a thousand more!

Did you read ANY of the other postings? About the land where tie-dyed never died? This is the SAME state that has a SOCIALIST as a United States Senator? The same state that has Leahy as the Senior Senator? The SAME place that NOW wants to try an criminally arrest the President of the United States? And you want me, who has put up with Vermonter attitude crap a for years, who saw my Father put up with the attitude just ONCE, now justify to you WHY Vermont is the asshole of the United States?

Yes, I have pent up anger. The righteous kind that comes from DIRECT CONTACT with the “citizens” of Vermont. I have ZERO respect for Vermonters.

I know, opinions are like butt’s, everyones got one, just some stink more than others. You are probably a real nice newbie and I should take it easy on you. Have a Happy New Year.

By the way, the last Vermonters that were worth a damn were Ira and Ethan Allen.

"No it isn’t. Its a beautiful place to live. Have you ever been there? Also, its the only state in the Union where I can walk out of a gunshop with my new pistol and conceal it without a permit. And that’s in the state constitution."

That's a good thing. But how do so many addle-brained idiots have such a voice in that state?

Is it because the liberal press will publish the crap they spew?

“The thing about Libs: not only are they unpleasant, ill-informed, completely unrealistic, perpetually needy and wildly paranoid, they’re also drama queens about it.”

Unfortunately, when their failed ideas make where their states unlivable, they move to conservative ones ruin them as well. Liberals spread like cancer cells.
