Thompson sees 'bigger picture' in Bhutto slaying-'This is a war, a clash of civilizations

Reacting to the assassination of former Pakistan Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto, Republican presidential candidate Fred Thompson told WND, "This is a war, a clash of civilizations." Thompson, commenting at the FAIR talk radio row in Des Moines, Iowa, said he suspected al-Qaida was responsible for the attack.

"The chance that a secular woman had a possibility of ascending to power in Pakistan drove the more radical Islamic elements in the country to violence," Thompson said.

The former Tennessee senator said the Bhutto assassination was "part of a much larger picture."

"This is an international war we are engaged in," he emphasized. "Bhutto's assassination is not a law enforcement matter. This is a global conflict, and al-Qaida wants to bring Western civilization to its knees."

No, it was ISI that killed her. They are the drug runners within Pak...and wanted her out of the way. That’s been confirmed from others within ISI...

Dear Heavenly Father

I offer up this prayer that in all of your infinite wisdom and it be your will that you give Fred Thompson's presidential campaign a gentle nudge in this time of war, rumors of wars, violence and Christianity under attack

open up the weakened and hardened hearts of voters who have turned away from your teachings with enough common sense to see the peril that surrounds us and the need for a strong American leader

Amen.

How...realy how, after reading/listening to Thompson’s reaction to Bhutto’s assasination can ANY of you think that he is the best man for the job.

Let's see...first off, he didn't apologize for the assassination, like the Huckster. Second, he understands that we are in a war - unlike all the Dems and several of the Pubbies (who give it lip service) and Ron Paul (who is a nut). He understands that part of the war is the battle to control our borders (scratch Rudy, McCain and Huckabee), and he's got a great grasp of (and experience in) foreign affairs (scratch Mitt - who can also be scratched because he is constantly changing his positions, and Hillary will call him on it). So who's left standing, Duncan Hunter? Don't get me wrong, I'd choose Hunter in a second, but he has no money and an approval rating under 5% - so he has no chance.

What was the deal with Huckabee coming out and apologizing for the attack?

Does he knee jerk blame America first?!

More and more like Jimmah Carter.

I hope that this stupid, Carteresque (/redundancy) statement is the beginning of the end of Huckabee. I really want to see Fred jam this one up Gomer's rump.

Just because he played roles of leaders on TV does not equate to real world executive experience.

Fred's title, "U.S. Senator from the State of Tennessee" was not a courtesy title from a television show or a movie script - it is was courtesy of 12 years in the United States Senate (and the experience that went with it).

Fred does have his problems but then, so do most of the rest of the Republican Pack of Presidential Candidates. Fred's shortcomings are, I think, more of perception on the part of the voting public - us - we who have and will vote, than a factor of his lack of experience.

Just my opinion, mind and certainly one that Fred (or more specifically, his campaign staff) would do well to pay attention to (because I don't think I'm alone in my uncertainty regarding Fred's Drive and Determination).

“There’s no question that the violence that we see throughout the world is violence that is not limited to … Iraq and Afghanistan, but is more global in nature.” --Slick Willard

So, violence throughout the world is global?

Wow.

That's deep.

I can only see logically that if the Islamic rest of the world saw the most powerful nation on earth with a female President then would that point out that AQ would deeply intensify attacks upon the US? To go all out? to go through years of careful planning just to deliver a doomsday attack be it as little or much grander than a single or multiple nuclear bombing? Or combination of weapons like bioterror, suicide, hijackings all at the same time?

So lets allow Clinton to be President, at least the enemy will get closer and we will be saving fuel.

My off the wall rant for the day.

Does the word salad in your post #34 have a meaning that would be understood in English?

Or do you just get paid to post “something”?

Why did you post that? Most people, including me, post words here to accomplish something -- to sway readers' opinions, or to persuade certain posters to stop "pissing on the front porch," so to speak, or (as is the case in this post), to extract information. So: WHY did you post the above? What do you aim to accomplish? A simple answer will do. That is, if you have one, which I doubt.

8 years, not 12, but otherwise spot-on.

Too bad Fred waited until this week to start running for President.

Just had coffee with a Conservative (Rudy guy) who feels it's up in the air and let us wait and see.

But both him and his wife caught on last week as well to a thought I had.

The Matthews and the Russert's if the world have been playing us and trying to king make a toad like Huckabee.

My friend, his wife, and I are pissed, salty language was used.

Fred is our guy he had the smarts to realize the dominant media was going to Jerry Springer the RINO's and had the temerity to stay the heck out of it.

Dumb like a fox if you ask me....

Might be a good skill to have as the POTUS.....

Yeah, and you can't get anbody BUT Fred to state the obvious. That's something that seems to get past Fred detractors.

Fred’s cool, and hopefully he’s wrong. if Fred is right that means Mussharaf has lost control, and the Jihadists have essentially taken over Pakistan. If thats true then we have to go in now and secure those nukes before some city with millions gets blown up.
