Huckabee's muzzle control problem
Baltimore Sun ^ | December 27, 2007 | Jim Tankersley

Posted on 12/27/2007 10:41:18 AM PST by keepitreal

Republican Mike Huckabee took his presidential campaign for a quick pheasant-hunting expedition in Iowa on Wednesday, and at one point, a reporter asked why he hadn’t invited sporting enthusiast Dick Cheney along. "Because I want to survive all the way through this," Huckabee replied, in a chuckling dig at the vice president’s accidental shooting of a quail-hunting partner last year.

Any good sportsman, though, couldn’t miss a distinctly Cheneyesque moment in the press accounts of the former Arkansas governor’s morning hunt: At one point, Huckabee’s party turned toward a cluster of reporters and cameramen and, when they kicked up a pheasant, fired shotgun blasts over the group’s heads.

This, friends, is dangerously bad hunting form.

Maybe candidates should be outlawed from demonstrating that they are hunters of some sort.

Did the Huck hire Kerry’s 2004 advisors?

Reporter (?) Tankersley pretends to be this Oregon country boy, but in actuality he’s an ivory tower elitist from the Stanford U. student newspaper. Whose proudest moment, according to his columns, was his summer-long paid sojourn to France.

I am in no way a Huckabee fan, however, this article either suffers from extremely poor writing, or the author is trying to blame Huckabee for something done by a member of his party.

What’s the big deal about needing to prove one is a hunter? Kerry, Romney, and Huckabee have all gone over the top with it. Cheney, on the other hand who IS a hunter, never speaks a word about it.

How does he know they were aiming at the pheasant, maybe they're just poor shots.

Because alot of hunters vote and some of these guys are pretty shakey on hot button issues for hunters -

Gun Control
Pandering to PETA
Restrictions on use of Public Land.

Most pols who are real hunters don’t make a big deal out of it because they have no intention on caving on those issues (and shafting themselves as well as other hunters).... the pols that go out for photo opps are the ones we know we have to be worried about... cause they don’t care anything about the sport....they are just trying to fool us into thinking they aren’t that bad afterall.... fortunately most of us know better.

P.S. Not real sure where Huckabee is on that axis...

Ha!

Huckabee emerged happily from his hunt, three dead pheasants in tow, Oliphant reports. Asked for a metaphor to describe the hunt, he replied, "Don't get in my way. This is what happens."

“Cheney, on the other hand who IS a hunter, never speaks a word about it.”

Sure, he is a caged hunt hunter who likes to take 50+ birds in an outing.

This incompetent, Kerry-esque, wanna-be hunter, jerk has no reason in taking pot shots at Vice President Cheney. If he met Cheney in person, he'd wet his pants.

Flame suit on.

Huckabee has surged because he won a couple of debates and he’s got evangelical support. If a quick rise can happen to the liberal pro-life evangelical Huckster, it can happen to the conservative pro-life evangelical Hunter.

According to Intrade, the winner of the December 12th GOP debate was... Duncan Hunter.

Huckabee is not pretending to be a hunter. He is a real one. He has been a hunter for a long time and not just when campaigning.

If the Huckster had been in charge of that Swift Boat, he would have been plugging that Viet Nam river for largemouth bass and the boat would have been covered with decals and his self-written award certificate would have credited him with the VietNam bass record!

BTW, I need you to review the text of my new Constitutional Amendment. I am proposing that the United States can only have one Presidential Candidate from Arkansas every 250 years. This is kind of a rush, so think it over.

Huckabee got a 22 lbs gobbler about a mile from our farm in Arkansas. He loves to fish and hunt. He can often be seen on the Arkansas River fishing for catfish below the Murray Lock and Dam.

I never heard of using reporters to flush out pheasants. Didn't Huck have a dog?

When I saw the report that Huck had gone hunting, I asked my husband did he hunt last season, season before that, or any other season? OR is this just a way to get the hunters to vote for him? Any of you know the answer
is he a regular hunting season hunter or just a new breed campaign season hunter?
