The invaders smashed through a security gate and broke windows in order to get inside, police reports said.
During their investigation, Rugby police provided her with a crime-fighting booklet that discusses home security.
But she told the Advertiser when she asked about putting in a new security fence and upgrading its capabilities, she was told the laws on liability meant she risked a police investigation herself if any trespassers hurt themselves climbing it.
She had wanted to add barbed wire to the fence in order to reduce the ease with which the robbers apparently gained access to her home.
But the Warwickshire Police "Operation Impact" booklet, which gives victims information on crime-fighting, suggested she could risk a prosecution herself if someone would be hurt.
"I respect that if the postman or the gas man calls, they don't expect to hurt himself. But I was speechless you couldn't make it up. I think these laws show we have gone soft in the head," she told the newspaper.
An investigation is continuing.

Methinks she is the only sane person left over there, aside from any fellow FReepers and Lady Thatcher.
Don’t forget the handicapped, they should provide a wheelchair if the burglar requests it.
In my home a burglar won’t have time to be offended, because the flash of light they see just before the buckshot does its job doesn’t last very long, and neither will they.
Soda machines??? What the hell is wrong with you? Don’t you know we are taking them out of society for society’s own good? No more of your fattening sugary drinks. Its juice or water mister!!! /sarcasm

It's now... "Ever, ever, ever give up!"
Once upon a time the US was like this, if one recalls the “Dirty Harry” era of the 780’s Criminals had all the rights and the victims none.
The Brits are behind us because they never had much of a crime problem until recently. I imagine they will have their fill of it eventually and put things more in balance.
Meanwhile, in the US, the pendulum has swung so much to the prosecution side that we are getting corrupt prosecutors like Nifong and Johnny Sutton railroading innocent people into prison.
Funny. I love it!
If you have no choice but to defend your home, sons and daughters of England, take some advice from a relatively free yank.
Kill the devil, clean up the mess and then dump the body somewhere out in the countryside. We here call that concept “The Three S Response.”
Shoot, Shovel and Shut up.
Brilliant, Brilliant! May I use it for my e-mail sig?
No, but you'll probably be sued if they crash their stolen car after getting drunk with the cash they stole from your house.
Better just put in a gate.
This was a seminal case in the “litigation explosion” that has changed tort law in the United States for the worst for the last 50 years. It was initiated by a number of socialist lawyers that reasoned that if someone was hurt, someone, anyone, must pay the injured party, even if it was their own criminal act that caused the injury.
It didn’t happen all at once, but gradually, as this group of lawyers say “social justice” and their own selfish interest become entangled and intertwined. They have been able to legally steal billions of dollars from otherwise innocent people.
They are part of the same system, not a backlash. The people they go after are not criminals but “evil white men” who are “racist” by definition.
say social justice
Should be “saw “social justice”, not say
