MEXICO CITY - Lorenzo Martinez, an illegal immigrant who has lived in Los Angeles for six years, has a message for his kin in Mexico's Hidalgo state: Stay put. The steady construction work that allowed him to send home as much as $1,000 a month in recent years has disappeared. The 36-year-old father of four said desperation is growing among the day laborers with whom he competes for odd jobs.
Sporadic employment isn't the half of it. Martinez said anxiety is also running high among undocumented workers about stepped-up workplace raids, deportations and increasing demands by U.S. employers for proof that they are in the country legally.
"Better not to come," Martinez said of anyone thinking about crossing into the U.S. illegally. "The situation is really bad."
That message seems to be getting through. There are numerous signs of a slowdown in illegal immigration.
What's behind the apparent decline?

For years I’ve known that the only way to deal with the illegal problem was to take action against employers who hire illegals, action against folks who rent to illegals or in any way help known illegals.
The new Arizona law seems to be doing the trick. Time to enforce our laws and kick ALL illegals out of our country.
How many articles have i seen on this topic in the last few days? 4 or 5. So, all of a sudden the media noticed the day before yesterday that the flow of illegals into our country has ebbed and/or so many of them are going back to Mexico?? Come on, this is the media trying to convince us that we don’t have this problem anymore. Thus, it’s not issue that presidential candidates need talk about much.
OK guys, just move along. Nothing to see here.
Just forget about the 20 million already here.
Go back to sleep. Everything is fine.
Liberalism + MSM = filth. It always adds up to the same thing.

They're all here.
So when is Martinez going home?
Don't talk to many Mexicans/Guatemalans in the area, but the Ecuadorians and Brazilians I know of are leaving due to the decline in the dollar exchange rate. That and the fact that Italy and Spain have a reputation for being "welcoming" to Latin American immigrants (which is understandable considering the alternative).
Minute Men of America
Stand Up
I always thought our group stood for stopping illegal immigration. I also thought that we, The Minute Me, wanted a permanent security fence along our southern border. It is now clear to me that our leaders are either asleep or have given up on our cause to save America from becoming a third world nation.
"When I am president, I will build a fence."
Did you know .....Fred Thompson in a speech in Iowa on the 21st. of Dec. declared "When I am president, I will build a fence." He went further on to say...Amnesty and illegal immigration, he said, are not healthy for the U.S. or Mexico. "We need to be a nation of high fences and wide gates."
Is this not what we want?
Where are our leaders?
Why aren't there Minute Men TV spots endorsing Fred Thompson?
If we fail we may very well have a Democrat or a liberal Republican elected, who will then push an amnesty bill through congress.
Call your Minute Men Headquarters today and give them your opinion.
Has anybody on an illegal immigration thread ever suggested that the US do what France and the UK are doing in some cases...paying the illegals to go back home?
Hopefully that endorsement will come.
Thanks for the ping. I don’t think the tide has changed, just one smaller wave than normal waves.

In this poll Hunter is up 3% and even with Paul and Thompson.

Somebody forgot to tell the criminal illegal aliens here in Dallas. There are so many now that they were standing on street corners to be picked up for cash labor at 9:30 Christmas morning. And not just a few, I saw about 100 total in about 5 blocks on Ross Av. At 9:30 Christmas morning.
Undeniably enforcement is probably having some effect. But simple arithmetic more than likely deserves the credit for the decline.
Olde México is a nation of some 100 Million people (a number that is evidently a closely guarded Mexican secret). One way or another there are already some 30 Million Mexicans here (another closely guarded secret).
Maybe it sounds stupid, but the most probable reason Mexican immigration is slowing down just might be that they are running short of Mexicans. I personally have visited villages where there seem to be mostly only old-timers and kids, with a few young mothers. Of course, the shortfall is being made up to some extent by our travelling vecinos from countries further south, but they simply haven't got the people pool that México does, or did.
Mexicans, legal and illegal, and their offspring will shortly comprise about a third of our population. "Shortly," to me means about 50 years.
Not that I'm aware of. I find it difficult to accept paying someone to rectify what was a crime to begin with. Would we be opening the door to illegal immigration for profit?
The flow of illegals needs to slow to 0, and we need to see a flow of deported illegals flow back to their so called countries!
Caesar Chavez many decades ago, wanted to LIMIT the number of them simply because it would depress wages, and cause the exact problems they are experiencing now.

The liberals don’t want this as a campaign issue so expect to hear lots of media assertions that the problem is magically fixing itself.
Amazing how simply enforcing existing laws works.
