Exactly. I don't blame the cops (for the most part), I blame the training. Most kids who want to carry a gun for a living start out with that mentality. They're kids, after all.
Just like military training, the idea behind law enforcement training is to weed out the real nuts and turn the rest of the kids into responsible, professional men. For whatever reason, a great many police training programs seem to be failing miserably at that.
I also blame the mentality we've developed as a nation, where we've farmed out responsibility for our own laws and our own safety to hirelings. That's not to say we don't need police, we certainly do, but it doesn't follow that every civilian need be either a criminal or a victim.
When we act like serfs instead of citizens, is it any wonder the armed men we set out among us treat us accordingly?
