NBC says some find bookcase and Christmas lights offensive

Candidate wishing voters Merry Christmas upsets some folks

The latest effort to spread the idea that religion has no place in the public square comes as a response to a TV spot produced by presidential candidate Mike Huckabee.

I urge you to watch the two video clips I have placed in this e-mail. First, is the ad by former Governor Huckabee wishing people a Merry Christmas. Click here to watch the 30-second ad.

Next, is a clip from the Today Show (Dec. 18), hosted by Meredith Vieira, on which Governor Huckabee was a guest. Vieira opens the interview talking about how some say the ad is sending an overt religious appeal to voters.

Some have become so openly hostile to the Christian faith that they are upset when a candidate simply wishes viewers Merry Christmas and mentions that --after all-- Christmas is the day Christians celebrate the birth of Christ.

The governor is accused of putting a cross in the background of his ad. The 'cross' they find offensive is nothing more than a bookcase. The critics say also that three lights stand for the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit! What is disappointing is that the media grabs such a concoction and makes big news out of this ad.

To me, these accusations are utterly silly, and biased. Watch the clip from the Today Show. There are those who feel that nothing religious, especially wishing people Merry Christmas, should be made by anyone seeking public office. That is the attitude of those who want to drive religion from the public square.

Iowans are apparantly pretty stupid. Didn’t Pat Robertson win Iowa once upon a time? Enough said!

I don’t think you really get anywhere with Republican voters by calling them stupid. It works with Democrats, but they like that whole abusive relationship thing.

I can understand Evangelical voters getting charged up by having one of their own on the ballot. They are not smoking my brand, but I understand. What I cannot understand is when they ignore every position and policy advocated by the candidate, and then are immune to simple observation when it is as plain as day that they are being shamelessly explointed.

There has to be a point where Identity Politics is no longer enough.

Since when does a "cross" include Christmas ornaments? (and, NO, I am not for Huckabee) I just think this is a media generated 'outrage'. I have more important questions of the candidates that don't include imagined 'hidden messages'.

Lucky for me, I'm not in the snake oil bizness, so it's not my concern. An electorate that chooses Pat Robertson is measurably stupid. Their vote is objective evidence. And I think it's good to know, because it explains Huckabee. Same morons, different televangelist.

I can understand Evangelical voters getting charged up by having one of their own on the ballot.

So can I. They're simpletons. Easily led and exploited by a smooth talking liar.

"NBC is offensive."

I would go so far as to say that a higher percentage of people fine NBC offensive than find the ad offensive.

You are wrong. My Pastor (or I) can send out a message saying “Merry Christmas” and no one will bat an eye. It is the mixture of belief with politics that is causing the problem.

I invoke His name every day.

Me too. But not in order to gain earthy power by attempting to get votes from moon faces.

Huckabee’s website is a lie. The day after he posted a good anti-illegal immigration plan on his website, he was asked about it on national TV.

He was very clear in his answer - that illegals needed to return to their home country, but that they should be able to return in hours or days to the USA and be on a path to citizenship. That is weaker than the amnesty plan defeated this year!

That is one of the many problems with Huckabee - he doesn’t tell the truth. His message varies from day to day, and between his website and his public statements. He is ever bit as dishonest as Clinton.

My challenge to you - what is the REAL Huckabee plan? The one he posted, or the one he has talked about in national appearances?

I hope the Huckster runs this ad a million times. Everyone I know sees right through it. The man is so full of it.

.The 'cross' they find offensive is nothing more than a bookcase. ....with every book removed

Oh c'mon. Probably in Huckster country there are untold numbers of bookcases with no books.

I'd be willing to bet that this was filmed in a studio, and someone on the production team took a look at the stock books in the shelf and said "they'll have to go".

Then again, it could have been a stupid attempt at being subliminal. I don't know, and don't really care. I'm not big fan anyway.

When you’re jumping up and down, who’s jumping with you?

Jesus!

Even Jesus needs exercise?

Its an intentional bookcase that looks like a cross.

What part of campaign politics don’t you understand?

I’m a Jew. I say Merry Christmas every chance I get. I love the holiday, and I am closer in ideology and temperament with my religiously Christian friends than I am with my secular Jewish friends.

About a week back, I was talking with someone I work with about stuff, and mentioned that she must be glad she doesn't have to deal with the Christmas insanity at the stores, since she's Jewish. She said "Are you kidding? I have to do both Christmas for my Christian friends and Chanukah's my Jewish ones!"

“I have yet to ever see a church or read in Church documents the word X-Mass signifying Christmas.”

Don’t be so parochial - there are some of us that do belong to the original christian churches ;-)

PS - I am not a supporter of the Huchster - leaning Giuliani but I think the ad and his “Paul is dead” retort was brilliant.

Huckabee isn’t my first choice, nor my last. I would prefer Thompson or Hunter, but Huckabee would be next.

Can you imagine Huckabee in a debate with Hillary? She would look foolish and inco, petent in comparison while Huckabee would come across as knowledgable and relaxed. Say what you want about Huckabee, he is an excellent communicator and comes across as being very likable.

I don’t car for some of his past positions, but if he was elected, his coat tails would return the House to the GOP. Do not underestimate the turnout of the Evangelical Christian vote if he is the nominee.

NBC sleaze factor template.

Huckabee LIED that his commercial handlers did not do that on purpose.

It is an OBVIOUS lie given current handlers, tech, and sophistication.

How many necktie choices did he do?

How many takes do they have uncut?

NBC network of journalist retards.
