Exactly how Reaganesque is Romney? [Mitt Romney is NOT a Republican]
Deseret News ^ | 12/25/07 | Me

It never ceases to amaze me how a person who has decided to support a candidate all too often arrives at a point where FACTS are meaningless to them. Such is true with those who support this Romney character. There has been one example after another that proves that Mitt Romney isn't even a Republican much less a conservative and that he has repeatedly lied about his positions. Yet, well meaning Republicans still support this flip-flopping liar. Here is yet another article that shows that Mitt Romney is the single worse candidate the GOP field has today.

David Lightman of the McClatchy Newspaper chain asks this question: Exactly how Reaganesque is Romney? And the answer is a decided NOT AT ALL.

A few excerpts of this article:

"I take inspiration from the strength Ronald Reagan talked about," Romney said. "It was his view that the right way to overcome challenges was for the country to strengthen itself."

Yet Romney wasn't always such a Reagan fan.

In 1994, when he ran for the U.S. Senate in Massachusetts, he said, "I was an independent during the time of Reagan-Bush. I'm not trying to return to Reagan-Bush."

And...
Romney spent years in the state registered as "unenrolled," or unaffiliated with a political party, and in 1992 he voted for former Sen. Paul Tsongas, a liberal Democrat, in the Massachusetts Democratic presidential primary.
And...
Romney replied: "Look, I was an independent during the time of Reagan-Bush. I'm not trying to return to Reagan-Bush. My positions don't talk about the things you suggest they talk about. This isn't a political issue."
Romney has lied about being a hunter, he has lied about his not supporting the baby killers at Planned Parenthood, he even lied about his father marching with Martin Luther King, Jr. He led as Governor of Massachusetts as a center left executive yet now claims that he is a conservative.

Yet, all these flip-flops, all these lies and his supporters stick their fingers in their ears and scream "LA LA LA" at the top of their voices. So, here is the thing. Romney is not Reagan, he is far more like Clinton. Because during the first Clinton run lie after lie was revealed and his supporters simply refused to take stock of their man. They voted for him despite the lies, the rapes, all his past troubles were ignored.

Mitt Romney is Bill Clinton without the sex crimes.

I donate $$ to Hunter on a regular basis, but I support Romney as the GOP’s best chance to win in ‘08.

I am most in tune with Duncan’s rock-ribbed take-no-prisoners attitude, but it’s no secret that he does not have the ‘presidential’ type of personality that the majority of Americans seek in a President. (sorry Duncan, I’m just facing reality)

Romney is the best blend of several essentials: he is a conservative-supporting candidate, telegenic, handsome with a great TV/media presence, and with great financial support.

And I believe he will keep his promises to govern from the right, because THAT will be where his power and authority comes from. The left would never help a Romney administration succeed.

I also believe that any reluctance to Romney on the part of southern conservative states or hard right conservatives in general will be forgotten and smoothed over as the ‘08 campaign gets into gear.

Guiliani would split the GOP in half, and Thompson would put the GOP to sleep..(sorry Fred, I love ya, but that’s the way things shape up)

McCain is unstable, anti-GOP and too old, despite his recent efforts at trying to get along with fellow Republicans.

Mitt stands the best chance of bringing it all together.

You are absolutely correct. Mitt Romney is habitual liar with a liberal record. Even former Massachussetts Republican governor Jane Swift has warned what a disaster he would be for the Republican party. Politicans that liar to gain power taint everyone that associate with them.

People like this poster are obsessed with Romney.

They don’t have a candidate they support. They just hate Romney.

It’s a sickness, of sorts.

Besides, they can’t point to any liberal policy decisions Romney made.

All they can do is cite an occasional comment Romney made to the press while running for office in a liberal state where a little pandering, as distasteful as it now seems, went a long way to getting him accepted by Mass voters.

It’s all rhetoric, ad hominim attacks, without substance.

The McClatchy Newspaper chain has as little credibility reporting on Republicans as does the Boston Globe or New York Times. Attacks by the liberal press count as a plus.

Excellent point. Just a bunch of attack dogs.

What say you head in the sand Romneybots?

LOL!

No matter how many times you diss Romney for making the apparent mistake of running for Governor of the most liberal State in the country, it does not affect the average supporter opinion of the man behind the politics.

Secondly, Republican does not mean 100% Reagan conservative. The majority of Republicans are moderates. They don't post here. They don't have a political dogma, except to declare their dislike for Democrats.

I'm gonna send another check to the Romney campaign to make you feel better.

Romney is better than Rudy, and probably even better than Huckabee.

Romney is the best blend of several essentials: he is a conservative-based candidate, telegenic, handsome with a great TV/media presence, and with great financial support.

“Many people are coming to Romney because of the continued biased bashing around here of posters trying to bring him down, merely to support their own candidate.

That is how I came to Romney”

That’s strange that you would support Mitt based on someone “bashing” him. I thought a FR conservative picked candidates based on their conservative record, integrity and what they stood for. Seems like a pretty shallow way to pick a candidate, especially for someone who considers themselves a conservative. I can’t see how any conservative could support a flip flopping, lying, liberal like Mitt. Are you really a conservative?

Only a certain kind of “Republican” can be elected in Massachusetts. I speak as a native who had the sense to get the hell out.

I used to say that Attila the Hun was a liberal! You don’t have a clue and it is obvious by your post.

You choose to twist my words, and use deceit. That is liberal.

I studied Romney’s record in infinite detail. I found him to have goverened conservatively. I also came to see that his detractors were bashing him in hopes of getting their pet candidate elected.

The left trashes him because he is the candidate they have been worried about all along.

So, the so, called conservatives, pick up the dribble that the left puts out and uses it to trash Romney.

Pretty pathetic.

I will support the ticket. This is the play off’s everyone has an equal right to express them selves, say what they want, .Vote however they want , I have no idea what will happen. But the super bowl is coming, I hope Republicans don’t sh*t the bed again and stay home. This is a Republican country, They can only win if we stay home or allow a split ticket.
