Can Russian GPS system track my dog? Putin asks
Mon Dec 24, 9:18 AM ET
President Vladimir Putin said on Monday he was keen to use Russia's planned global positioning system GLONASS to look after his black Labrador Koni.
"When can I buy hardware to equip my dog with so that she won't run away too far?" Putin was quoted as asking First Deputy Prime Minister Sergei Ivanov during a briefing on progress towards developing a competitor to the U.S. GPS system.
Russia is working to expand GLONASS, a system which locates objects on the ground using orbital satellites, and make it available for civilian use. The project is part of the Kremlin's attempts to boost hi-tech sectors of the Russian economy.
"Producers will be able to offer collars for dogs and cats of commercial users in mid-2008," Itar-Tass news agency quoted Ivanov as replying.

Or a simple and cheap way is to do what we did yesterday, run an electric fence. It’s also fun to see the reaction when Bowser first tries it out, heehee.
Bar code huh, what’s that?
Well Mr. President.

"Connie, who some say is named after U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, is not only the star of a book but also has a leading role in a weekly comic strip, "Connie and Her Master," which has appeared in Ogonyok magazine."
Just feed him some polonium. That will keep him from running off.... Just like it took care of some of the people who dared to run off too far from you, pooty-poot.
What a coy way to give the proud Russian people a preview of what they can expect for themselves...
Must be a fairly intelligent and loyal dog to try and get away from another commie thug dictator.
Is Putin really this stupid?
I will call the paradigm as Pooty-Poot's dog.
Is there a product like this in the US? It would be a big seller. Something that you could attached to the dog’s collar (or whatever) and be able to track it remotely.
Is this available in America? You have to be kidding and have you ever heard of Google?

Putin can wait for his Government to develop a GPS to track his dog; it will probably weigh 5 pounds so the dog won’t go far; maybe he should just go to the internet and order one from the US of A where they have been available for a long time....
Bet it was a planted question to give the salesman an opportunity to speak.
not if the same electronics that go in russian subs.
When I was in high school I had a dog that always peed on the mag wheels of my car.
I hooked an electric fencer up to the car. Boy mom really gave me heck, but I never had trouble with the dog after that. He stayed WAY away from that car!
That doesn't work too well with a lot of hunting dogs. They know it's going to hurt but they'll run through it anyway to get to game, and when they're done with their deer or fox or coon or whatever, they can't bring themselves to go back in through the fence. Common problem.
I try to control my small hunting dogs with a regular fence but when we're out in the woods I want some kind of GPS system so I can find them. Have heard different things about different GPS systems, and since they're expensive I don't want to make a mistake. Anyone have any experience with different types of tracking collars for hounds?
Poor Koni...has to live with the neo-Soviet dictator Putin as her master. Hey Putin, I’ll trade you your lab for two of my cats who collectively shred furniture, slash you if you pick them up, and sporatically use the kitchen floor as a litter box.
Haha, only kidding. As crazy as those cats are, I wouldn’t give them to Putin.
Bush the American President said, “I looked the man (Putin) in the eye. I found him to be very straightforward and trustworthy.”

Koni, the labrador said in a statement, “I looked in Putin’s eyes and found him to be utterly dishonest and would not trust him to fill my water bowl.”
