630 WMAL's Jerry Klein's "Poinsettia Story" - Political Correctness Run Amok - 12/24/07
http://www.wmal.com/sectional.asp?id=18392 ^

Posted on 12/24/2007 9:00:19 AM PST by SilvieWaldorfMD

Jerry Klein is the “Pet Liberal” host of 630 WMAL, the conservative-leaning radio news talk radio station in Washington, D.C. During his Sunday show (yesterday) Jerry, who is also Jewish, narrated the story about how it came about that he does not accept poinsettias (as gifts or otherwise) during the holiday season. The story on how this happened starts years ago, when Jerry and his wife moved to a new neighborhood. The management of his new residence gave every resident a poinsettia as a gift, and Jerry, in so many words, accepted the gift but let management know indirectly somehow that he does not accept poinsettias because he’s Jewish. Ever since then, in subsequent years, management has not given any resident of the complex any poinsettia. So, we can say that Jerry, with his political correctness in all its glory, “ruined it for everyone”.

Here’s Jerry narrating the poinsettia story with his residential complex management and also how poinsettias became associated with the Christmas holiday:

Did he bring up the rumor that poinsettias “are poisonous”?

A HOA is not a government per se, why would it have to follow this kind of rule? Why couldn't it just ask who wants poinsettias or not instead?

And you know what? I bet he thinks he “made the world a better place” through his petty little exercise in self-expression.

How ridiculous!

Hope you'll accept this highly sectarian, potentially offensive botanical tribute from me.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you, Silvie!

It a way his actions are almost poetic. We should all join Jerry's crusade :-)

Or better yet, if he receives a poinsettia and does not want it because of religious factors — then just go ahead and give it to someone else - the gardener, your barber - someone else will enjoy and appreciate the gift.

Yep, when I found out that the family that controls 70% of the poinsettia market are big Planned Parenthood donors, I too decided to stop buying that plant as a gift. I give my clients candy instead.

Note to self — buy poinsettias from Guatemalan growers only.

Would I be offended if someone gave me a dradle as a gift even though I’m not Jewish? Of course not.

This year at school (public school) my son, who is in first grade, and all his fellow students made the Star of David from popscicle sticks, colored in deep blue with streaks of gold and attached a string to it. He brought it home and it is part of the ornaments decorating our Christmas tree. It is featured prominetly on the tree, right in front, and not out of view.

We’re bigtime Catholics and we enjoy all of our ornaments!
