Once the fair tax would be implented, all other federal taxes would cease. The LA times failed to mention the prebates.

I cannot believe that people here on FR would take an analysis by the LA slimes at face value.

“23%? Fair?”

Remember, it’s supposed to replace both the income tax and SS taxes which are 15% of your gross. That would make the income tax portion only 8%.

The reason I as well as a bunch of other well to do folks don’t like it is that I would have to pay tax again on funds that I have already paid taxes on...

23%? Fair?

No need for conjecture as you, or anyone else for that matter, can, from the privacy of your own home, use the Fairtax calculator to plug in your own numbers and see for yourself how much better off YOU would be under the FairTax!

As long as I’m collecting it then its fair. ;-)

At the end of the day a move to a national sales tax to replace the income tax will only succeed in giving us both an income tax and a national sales tax.

Research before deciding. It is the end of the IRS, you get thousand or so back every month according to income and status.

Those that refuse to even consider change for the better, are prime examples of part of the problem in America. Think for yourself, not with a lemming brain!

Ewww thats more excessive than Canada or the United Kingdom.

Maybe a 10% GST tax, but 23% added to a state tax would cripple our economy. I would personally want to vote for Thompson or McCain.

Yes, fair. You're taxed on what you spend, and everyone gets a tax pre-bate to offset the sales tax on necessities. Thus the poor are exempted from it.

You're NOT taxed on what you earn, and all the hidden taxes (FICA, Medicare, Medicaid) are eliminated.

YOU TAKE HOME YOUR ENTIRE PAYCHECK, except for state taxes.

The estate tax is eliminated also, which would be of interest to you or whomever you know who owns a business.

This is probably the only logical explanation for The Huckster's sudden surge in popularity. Of course, in his case it's a fake.

You can get the facts on it here:

23%? Fair?

No, that's not fair. Fair would be to return our federal government back to its constitutional size and support it with about a 10% tax. But, the idea behind the Fair Tax is a great idea; tax consumption and quit taxing production. Also, it would make it a huge political liability for congress to ever raise taxes again because a tax raise would no longer be hidden in back room deals and it would affect EVERYBODY, rich, black, white, poor, hispanic, etc.
