Associated Press - President Bush praised U.S. troops yesterday and gave a special thank-you to military families who have turned the grief of losing loved ones into acts of compassion.
For many relatives of U.S. troops, military service means packing up their belongings and moving on short notice, living in a foreign country or missing a family member as he or she serves overseas, Mr. Bush said in his weekly radio address.
Mr. Bush taped his broadcast on Friday before leaving aboard the Marine One presidential helicopter to fly to Camp David with first lady Laura Bush; their daughter Jenna; and Mrs. Bush's mother, Jenna Welch. The president will celebrate Christmas with his family at the presidential retreat in Maryland's Catoctin Mountains, then travel to his Texas ranch the day after Christmas.
"This Christmas, many will sit down for dinner thinking of their loved ones half a world away," Mr. Bush said. "These families deserve the thanks and the prayers of our whole nation."
Mr. Bush said Army Spc. Michael Rodriguez of Knoxville, Tenn., often wrote to his family about children he met on patrol during his deployment in Iraq. Spc. Rodriguez was killed in April by a suicide bomber, but his family honors his memory by helping collect school supplies for students at an Iraqi school for girls.
Last year, Kirsten Yuhl-Torres of San Diego, Calif., lost her son, Sgt. Joseph Perry, in Iraq.
"To honor Joseph's memory," Mr. Bush said, "she started sending care packages and writing letters of support to other soldiers serving there. Kirsten says, 'Joe was our only son, but now we have hundreds.' "

Bush can commute the sentences of Scooter Libby and drug dealers but won't commute the sentences of Compean & Ramos and/or pardon Marines who are locked up in the brig for fighting terrorists!!!
Shame on you, President Bush.

If only you were president then everything would be right and just. Of course maybe not everything but all the important stuff, for sure.

Merry Christmas, and welcome to Free Republic!
Thats fine you have those opinions, but don’t hijack the headline with them so off topic from what the story is about.
And who the hell are you to be telling me what I can say on a thread I POSTED!
FYI, IT IS NOT OFF TOPIC!
BUSH WISHES EVERYONE A MERRY CHRISTMAS AND PRAISES THE TROOPS. HE PARDONS DRUG DEALERS BUT REFUSES TO PARDON COMPEAN, RAMOS AND INCARCERATED MARINES!
It is very much on topic to us Marines & Border Patrol Agents and our families.
So take your lecture and shove it!
I really hate to say it ... and I voted for him in each Presidential election ... BUT ... I’ll be glad when he’s gone .... there I said it
Boo on President Bush. Shame on President Bush for his failure to commute the sentences of Compean and Ramos and pardon our Marines locked up for doing their jobs! Outside of former President Clinton I have NEVER seen such a disregard for the will of the people strictly for compassion for people without power or money, the people who made this country great.
Compassionate conservative NOT! We the people have been had. Do not be poor without connections with THIS President!
Merry Christmas to you and yours.
You can add my “shame on you, President Bush.” That comes from a lifelong conservative Republican who is very disappointed in some of President Bush’s decisions including his lack of fortitude in taking on the MSM and Liberals for the past seven years. I’m sure I’m not alone in my comments.
Very.
Have a Merry Christmas, kellynla.
LOL....you go Kelly.
btw....where’s my dang pardon?
