Nothing, except a mob was coming after his son instead of burglars coming for the neighbor’s property!

Joe Horn shot strangers who were escaping with their burglary loot while in Texas. John White shot an unarmed teenager who was known by his son in the face at point-blank range during a verbal argument while in New York.

There are lots of differences.

Horn has a weaker case, because he was defending his neighbor's property without any previous agreement between the neighbors to do so. However, he didn't shoot till the robbers stepped onto his property.

Joe Horn was originally stopping burglars from fleeing with their loot. This guy was preventing assault, or at least criminal mischief during the nighttime. Plus, this poor guy lived on Long Island. Joe Horn lives in Texas.

Joe Horn is white and John White is black.

FReepers are bending over backwards to justify the conviction of John White, as far as I can tell, for that reason alone. There is zero evidence that Horn was directly threatened by anyone, whreas everyone agrees that White and his son were directly threatened.

Ultimately, I believe John White took things too far - but a reasonable person can understand why he did what he did.

“He wanted to stop these people who said they were coming to kill his son,” defense attorney Fred Brewington said in closing arguments.”

If those threats were real, and I have no reason to doubt that statement, he was defending his home and family. Unfortunately Mr. White does not live in Texas. We have a right to defend our home, family, and life and “do not and I repeat DO NOT have a duty retreat from a conflict.”

Call me up on the phone and tell me you are going to kill me and then show up at my house, will get you in a world of hurt. I would tell them to leave once. If they did not the last thing they would see is a laser beam on their heart about a second before their heart is destroyed by 62 grains of lead at 3200 feet per second.
