I'll bet that this is largely due to the huge number of Irish people living in the UK.Ireland and the UK have for many years had laws which,in essence,gives citizens of the other country permission to settle there without hindrance.

And in recent years Irish citizens have settled in the UK by the hundreds of thousands....or more.

But it doesn’t help that so many of the COE hierarchy are batso.

There was a huge wave of Irish into the UK following the potato famine and they were the largest ethnic group on the East End of London and in much of Liverpool for many decades following. Many English Catholics are descendants of this wave, and there has been an ebb and flow of immigration from Ireland to England and Scotland ever since.
