This might explain some things... (Huckabee)
The Jawa Report ^ | 22 Dec 07

"Who is your favorite author?" Aleya Deatsch, 7, of West Des Moines asked Mr. Huckabee in one of those posing-like-a-shopping-mall-Santa moments.

Mr. Huckabee paused, then said his favorite author was Dr. Seuss.

In an interview afterward with the news media, Aleya said she was somewhat surprised. She thought the candidate would be reading at a higher level.

"My favorite author is C. S. Lewis," she said.

It’s called pandering. He sees a child and immediately goes for the answer that he hopes will satisfy her.

Yo, Huk … she is not old enough to vote!

Not your fault. I should no longer be surprised at the feces coming out of Huck’s mouth.

He’s looking more and more like that other former governor of Arkansas who ran for President a few years ago — say anything as long as it helps get the votes.

Yeah, you’re right. He was just telling her what he thought she’d want to hear. Typical politician.

Yes. Maybe a truthful answer would cause the girl to ask another question, maybe start a dialog with her Mom. When I was little, someone spoke to me of his passion for Mitchner. I was too young at the time, but later remembered that an adult I respected liked this author. When I was ready for something ‘adult’ I read one of his books ... didn’t finish it, but was proud to try. Huck’s answer was condescending.

Yeah, he should have answered honestly, then asked her a question back.

I had a similar but more honest dialogue with an eight-year-old girl. "Who's your favorite writer?" she asked. "I don't really have just one, it depends on who I'm reading," I said. "Right now my favorite is Anthony Trollope. You might not like him yet because he really wrote for people who are 40 or 50 years old. Who are you reading now?" "J.K. Rowling." "Yeah, I've read some of the Harry Potter books, I really liked the first one. Who's your favorite character?" And so on we went.

If she'd said C.S. Lewis, we could really have had Old Home Week -- because he is one of my favorite writers.

You may have seen “The Binch Story” as well...circulated the internet after 9/11...a thinly veiled Osama Bin Laden as the Binch, trying to ruin life for each U and each S.

Sounds to me like Huck is copying off of Fred and making jokes out of stupid questions.

Unfortunatly this question isn’t one Huck should have joked about.

Egads, I can practically hear the strums of "Dueling Banjos" play as I look at this photo.
