Ramos, Compean pardons? 'No,' 'No,' says Bush rep
WorldNetDaily.com ^ | December 22, 2007

The White House apparently is so reluctant to discuss the issue of pardons or commutations for convicted U.S. Border Patrol agents Ignacio Ramos and Jose Compean that a spokesman doesn't even want to allow questions about the issue to be finished.

The circumstances arose during a White House press gaggle with spokesman Tony Fratto, when Les Kinsolving, WND's correspondent at the White House, tried to raise the issue of the disparity in the treatment of the Border Patrol agents, compared to that given Scooter Libby, an aide to Vice President Dick Cheney who was convicted of lying during an investigation into the outing of the identity of a covert U.S. agent.

The agents were convicted and given prison sentences of 11 and 12 years for shooting after a self-confessed drug smuggler fleeing back into Mexico after leaving 750 pounds of marijuana in Texas, while Libby was excused from serving any of his prison sentence through President Bush's intervention.

The White House repeatedly has said there is a pardons request procedure available to the agents, even though Libby apparently did not go through the same process before Bush acted.

"A number of times here, when questions were raised about former U.S. Border Patrol agents Ramos and Compean, we were told that there is a process for pardon. And I have a three-part question on this…" Kinsolving began.

"You have to make it quick, because they're calling for me," Fratto said.

"I will. Could you explain to us why the president refuses to commute these men who shot an escaping Mexican drug smuggler…" Kinsolving continued.

"No," interrupted Fratto.

"…as the president commuted the prison sentence of his friend, Scooter Libby," Kinsolving asked.

"No," Fratto responded.

. Perhaps the young Bush, during his wild yute, did some embarrassing things down Mexico way, and now is completely, quite literally pwn3d by ... Mexico.

This has been my belief all along. Either there's a dead hooker or a couple living bambinos carrying a politically embarrassing last name and GWB knows the pictures will only stay out of the evening news if he keeps playing mexico's stooge.

Who knows, it could even be worse than that. Tijuana and tequila are well known for being a bad combination when cameras are present.

But I do believe he's being blackmailed into selling out this country. Otherwise...

Based on Bush's pro-illegals and anti-law enforcement/Minutemen/Border Patrol stance, this is surprising.......why?

Well after reading through the thread it's clear now some are seeing the real Bush dynasty. When Clinton was in office it stirred anger that his family was doing China business deals. When Bush got elected and his uncle was having lunch with China's leaders while our plane was being forced down it was called Free Trade and opportunity. The Family Bush is as corrupt and power hungry and the Family Clinton. Politically there is not that much difference between them now was there that much between Bush and Gore in 2000. If you think Gore would not have taken us to Iraq you are wrong. He would have likely with a few possible variants done the same thing and people would be calling for impeachment for ignoring the real backers as in financing the 9/11 attacks. People would have also cursed Gore's nation building.

Gore like Bush would have complete apathy for any and all abuses the governments of Mexico, China, Saudi Arabia, and North Korea, have done against our nation both economic and other venues.

More proof? Here is it our military itself. I've checked the numbers. Clinton End Troop Strength Numbers the numbers set for allowed active duty military and reserves are the same as Clinton's in 1996. Yet no one cares especially Bush.

Bush's doesn't care what conservatives think nor share their values. He really doesn't even care what moderates think. He is in office to carry out a given agenda handed him in 2000. An agenda decided not by voters but rather in backrooms and corporate board meetings. Bush handpicked the ones who he knew would never dare question his agenda and appointed them to key positions.

Bush would not have lasted beyond one term had an event happened which because of fear allowed him to develop a marketing term for all his dirty deeds. He calls it the War on Terror. It has literally been the excuse for almost every act he has done. How many would have been outraged had Clinton or Gore for example proposed Department of Homeland Security or The Patriot Act? Yet because he is a Republican ones who are members of the GOP blindly and without reservations backed him.

Our nation is in deep serious trouble. Our choice for change comes real soon. I find it disturbing that the top four choices {two of which have helped carry the water for Bush in the past few years} are now being force fed as our only real choices. I can assure you Bush will be very pleased if McCain or Fred who have been his little helpers are elected as he will with Mitt and Rudy. But listen closely Bush will also be happy if HRC wins as well. It's all about an agenda. An agenda which people of power have used to lead this nation to hell in a handcart since January 1989.

Democrats won’t change this law because it keeps LEO’s in jail. Democrats DETEST law enforcement of any kind.

You maybe correct that Democrats won’t change this law but that doesn’t prohibit all these Republicans that are protesting the Ramos/Compean sentencing from filing changes in their respective branch of Congress. I’ve not heard about any such filings todate..... Why do you reckon they don’t file such legislation?

IMO, Bush's refusal to commute/pardon Mr. Ramos and Mr. Compean has less to do with Mexico and everything to do with Johnny Sutton.

It cannot be overstated the fact that Sutton spent six years as Bush's criminal justice policy aide while Bush was Governor of Texas. For Bush to commute or pardon these men would be a slap in Sutton's face.

Bush's stubborn loyalty to his long-time friend and aide Sutton prevents him from doing what is right and freeing these wrongfully-convicted men. Bush's stubborn loyalty is one of his worst traits.

.... would much rather have these two CLEARED than Pardoned.....and it is working it’s way thru the system, the noose is tightening around Johnny Sutton and that would NOT happen if they were PARDONED

In other words, this has to happen around Bush. He's not with this, Compean / Ramos, Poe, Hunter, or us. Painful now. Better later.

This would be much more hopeful to them (plus the “NAU” tyranny).

Problem is Waxman, et al., are on the same side as the Bush family when it comes to "NAU tyranny," the border, illegal immigration, drug business, and Ramos and Compean.

Ron Paul has his good qualities. I have some differences with him myself but don't consider him a tyrant nor see in him {the intentional harm} I do in others. Even Paul's foreign policy has valid points saddly much of it has been media twisted. Much of our M.E. woes are a result of our own stupidity which largely began under Ford and were greatly expanded under Poppy Bush. Hunter is strong on defense and I do consider him one of the only two conservatives running and yes I can in good conscience vote for him as well.

"Our nation is in deep serious trouble."

Profound and true.

We have gone from confusion to frustration to anger.

Now, we are in a state of fear.

“Why do you reckon they don’t file such legislation?”

That’s an excellent question. Over the last 3 years I’ve come to the conclusion that Bush and a fair number of Republicans in congress are totally bought off by the Mexican gov’t. This irrationality can only be explained by huge sums of cash. At least that’s my take.

Now, we are in a state of fear.

Indeed we are in just that. But our one true King told us what to fear, when to fear, whom to fear, and why to fear them.

“Four congressmen – Democrats William Delahunt of Massachusetts and Silvestre Reyes of Texas, and Republicans Dana Rohrabacher of California and Ted Poe of Texas – signed a letter to President Bush asking him to commute the sentences of Ramos and Compean.”

“Delahunt, Rohrabacher and Poe earlier sponsored House Concurrent Resolution 267 asking the House to petition President Bush to grant clemency in the case. It now has 37 Democrats and several dozen Republicans as sponsors.”

So much effort, press conferences, hundreds of letters, House Resolutions, media appearances, rallies, photos...and not one second to write and submit legislation that corrects and redefines 18 U.S.C. 924(c) to get Ramos and Compean out of jail and home with their families for Christmas.

The corrective legislation could have been made retroactive to cover R&C. Concern for R&C cuts across both parties so their would have been trouble putting this on the fast track.

It could have been done by now. It seems this is the quickest and easiest way to accomplish the goal, but it hasn’t even been considered much less proposed.

Anyone care to wonder why?

It seems all this effort for Ramos and Compean should be redirected to getting Hunter, Poe and Feinstein to actually make something happen which they can control and see completed. But I doubt it will...fancy press releases, media ops and headline catching sound bites are much more productive politically than the tedious and unheralded work of passing legislation and it is far easier to just blame Bush.
