A college roommate of mine considered becoming a crop duster pilot. Back then in the early 70’s they were getting $50,000 a year. That was a huge salary.
He told me about the interview, it went really well. They liked him, he liked them, he liked the aircraft and the other pilots. He noticed that all the pilots were rather young, and asked to talk to the old pilots.
He decided against that career path when they told him, “We don’t have any old pilots...”
That’s different from here where almost all the ag pilots are very old and the industry is concerned that few young pilots are getting involved.
"There are old pilots, and there are bold pilots, but there are no old, bold pilots."
There are old pilots and bold pilots, but no old, bold pilots!
