It wasn’t the nature of the charge that McCarthy has been lynched over. It is the manner in which the charge was levelled and concept of hearings (which predate McCarthy) in which Communists were made to testify about who else is a Communist.
There were real witches on trial in The Crucible. The woman had the girls dancing naked in the woods. The question posed was whether we should accept the words of people under trial accusing others.
Like should we accept the word of a gay prostitute to tell us who else is a homosexual.
These points are lost on the Left. The Communists were opposed to the witchhunts not because there weren’t witches or even because THEY weren’t witches, it was because they saw nothing wrong with BEING a witch/Communist even as Stalin was murdering millions and obtaining military secrets from the US and undermining America’s Constitutional form of government through media, education, labor, protests, and public office holders.

Such reward would have been richly deserved.
But in any case, crippled for life - I can think of no more just punishment for an individual so vile. And I mean that.

Unfortunately I had to apply the draft dodgers/adulterers criteria to the republican candidates; there are quite a few of them this year. There are also very few who could ever be convicted of being a Reagan Republican in any court, and isn’t that a shame.
