"Unless your house is very new you will always have "issues"."I'm afraid I've got some bad news for you:
Even new houses have "issues".
So don't buy a new house without a warranty.

We've got a Mod 1 Mark 1 Lurker who gets whined at until it gets fixed. That's classic.
I can so, so, so relate to that. It starts as not so subtle hints, morphing into snide comments, then finally becomes full-on 108mm bitch-mode until I get off my butt and fix it in just to get some peace and quiet.
I'm usually rewarded with something nice - like homemade chocolate chip cookies.
Merry Christmas, L.

If you teach a man to fish
he needs graphite reels, boats, coolers, six-packs, depth finders, global navigation systems, nets, hats, lures, bait, buckets . . . you get the old coot out of the house!

The article said she was missing a screen, but I think I see it there in the picture — it’s hard to miss.
Ignoring that obvious thing, plus the christmas light deer in her living room, I would note that replacing a screen can be done for under 10 bucks, and the homeowner can do it herself, or get one of her buddies who helped her carry the big-screen TV into her living room to do it.
She could exchange their help for a night watching the superbowl on her big-screen TV. I’m betting she has cable.

She said she’d be better off with the homeless people across the street. I’m wondering if they have power for her big-screen TV over there. Because the TV is big enough for all of them to watch from their OWN “living room” boxes.

Hey you people!
She had to trade a whole stack of these for that HDTV you know!

That picture shows a person with a standard of living better than at least 90% of the worlds population. That room is as good or better than many in Western Europe, better than many in Eastern Europe. Someone in a third world country would think they had died and gone to heaven if they lived there.

There you go! A win/win in the relationship. My poor wife is afflicted with a homebody whose main hobby is reading (try that with a three year old in the house).

“...it’s pitiful what people give you.” ?
Amazing.
I’ve worked in hundreds of HUD and sec 8 apartments. Almost all these folks have multiple TVs, CD and DVD players, stacks of CD/DVDs.

After Katrina I began noticing bumperstickers that read "RENew Orleans". My first thought was to have a bunch of "SC" stickers printed up to keep in my glovebox for parking lots...
After reading/seeing this, it looks like my instincts were correct.

If you build a man a fire, he'll be warm for a night. If you set a man on fire, he'll be hot the rest of his life. Also, if you are on fire, the Ninjas can't get you.
