Lakota Indians Withdraw Treaties Signed With U.S. 150 Years Ago

WASHINGTON — The Lakota Indians, who gave the world legendary warriors Sitting Bull and Crazy Horse, have withdrawn from treaties with the United States.

"We are no longer citizens of the United States of America and all those who live in the five-state area that encompasses our country are free to join us,'' long-time Indian rights activist Russell Means said.

A delegation of Lakota leaders has delivered a message to the State Department, and said they were unilaterally withdrawing from treaties they signed with the federal government of the U.S., some of them more than 150 years old.

The group also visited the Bolivian, Chilean, South African and Venezuelan embassies, and would continue on their diplomatic mission and take it overseas in the coming weeks and months.

Lakota country includes parts of the states of Nebraska, South Dakota, North Dakota, Montana and Wyoming.

The new country would issue its own passports and driving licences, and living there would be tax-free - provided residents renounce their U.S. citizenship, Mr Means said.

The treaties signed with the U.S. were merely "worthless words on worthless paper," the Lakota freedom activists said.

>>>Will they be recruiting Al Quaeda immigrants to join their ranks?

Actually, there were some Seneca Indians that were married to M.E. Islamic men of interest that hit the news during the Lackawanna Six/Michigan blackmarket cigarette investigation.

My Great-Grandfather was a hell-raisin Cherokee, who said never trust or DEPEND on the Government. You never saw him living in self-pity and squalor on some reservation. He took control of his own life and was successful without Government handouts. That’s the American thing to do, which conservatives understand much better than others.

If he can speak for them, perhaps we can get Congress to build this fence. We can say it is to keep the greedy white man out of their territory. With no productive land and no communication with the outside, how long would they last? This seems to be what they want.

You are seeing the symptom of a larger illness. You would possible understand the malaise if you spoke at any length with members of the tribe. A people without hope and hungary, and suffering from terrible depridations are not too worried about trash that is not picked up due to lack of services we take for granted.

Though I cannot calim to speak for them, I believe the Lakota people would like that kind of self respect, but they need to get some assistance to get them there. The reservation was the most barren land possible, with no productivity taht the white people would want. They are living on virtual desert land, and there are no jobs.

Yet they are subject to control by the whites in many ways.

I believe there are ways in which they could be helped which would allow them to regain some sense of pride in their community.

However, as long as we are blind to ttheir plight, they will receive nothing from the US, except our ridicule and bad indian jokes.

So... do we send in the cavalry?

Just stop payment on their welfare checks. They'll be back on the reservation, chop-chop.

The feds don't like it when you talk about reducing taxes or trying to revoke taxes.... (yes, there is a joke or comparison in there somewhere about the American Revolution and taxes).

I had only been on FR a few days when the USS Cole was attacked in Yemen.

I am a former Naval Officer and was extremely upset with the way x42(i) and his minions were handling the whole affair. I had written about a two page reply to a post. After reading it over I decided to can the reply and start my first thread. Broken Glass Republican.

This was picked up by Byron York in his article Year of the Broken Glass Republican, Peggy Noonan in The Meaning of the Vote and Broken Glass Republicans and Rush mentioned it several times on the air. I received very nice return e-mails from Byron and Peggy when I claimed credit for originating the phrase and gave them the original link. It seems that Byron York's sister is a FReeper and he heard it over dinner from her. Peggy Noonan got it from Byron and Rush got it from Peggy.

This was also the origin of my signature block. My family's motto is "Garde la Foi (Keep the Faith)." I paired that with GWB's comment that "Help is on the way." It changed over time to what you see below. I have had several people complain about my french grammar, but it is correct. I deliberately used the reflexive to add emphasis.

Keeping the faith with our troops is not up to someone else, it is our responsibility.

I hope this answers your question.

The Lakota and Sioux originated in the Wisconsin area and never saw the plains as a tribe much before the 14th or 15th century. They drove out and killed off the tribes who were there before them. They fought their wars against a bigger tribe and lost. Too bad but they have sh** in their own plate over the years instead of moving out of the stoneage mindset. They are now into the cult of victimhood.

Yep, no longer citizens = no more welfare checks or other social spending on them... I can live with that.

Russell Means never supported the Rez gold rush to Casinos:

"I am totally against anything for free – that’s casinos, that’s government handouts. Anything you don’t work for you shouldn’t get. If you don’t work, you shouldn’t be rewarded, period. It creates a dependency syndrome that is only beneficial to those who are in control."
