What if, like Brandy Bridges, you break a CFL bulb? The EPA has recommendations for that, too.
If a CFL breaks in your home, open nearby windows to disperse any vapor that may escape, carefully sweep up the fragments (do not use your hands) and wipe the area with a disposable paper towel to remove all glass fragments. Do not use a vacuum. Place all fragments in a sealed plastic bag and follow disposal instructions above.
There are tons of sites out there that refute this 'story.' This is one ofthem, another is in post 269. I can get dozens more if you really want. Don't you think it's strainge "Maine-iac7" that only one such story exists even though millions own CFLs? You do realize that CFLs contain less than 1/100th of that in an old thermometer? Did you have to pay thousands to clean up them? Your hysteria is truly frightening of that of a Freeper.
What about motion detection lights? they dont' work with them either - and I depend on them inside and my porch light for safety underfoot
Read this insanity - the details of how they must be disposed of - read the 'What if I break..." instructions. Pure insanity and then read the 2nd link about what happened to a lady who DID break one

When are we going to stand up and demand this stop NOW - why are we all just nattering about it but accepting it as a faite accompli - we need to start screaming loud and clear right now.
This is such an easy one to totally refute the 'to save energy' mantra...
in this day of all the "GREEN" technology, they're going to mandate these hazard waste products be in every home?
Come on folks, lets not just sit here preaching to the choir - get on the horn!
Oh, great. Now we’ll burn to death in our sleep.
I was a huge disbeliever in CFLs for years. I changed all the lighting in my house abit over 4 months ago to CFLs after reading that most of the negative aspects of CFLs had gone the way of the dinosaur. I installed 6 CFLs I purchased from Costco and besides a short delay (about 1-2 seconds), couldn’t tell a difference. My parents came by for a visit a few weeks later (I had installed many more CFLs by that point). They HATED CFLs with a passion and regularly railed against them at family get togethers. They didn’t notice a difference in the lighting even after I mentioned it to them.
Yeah, because that worked reallly well with online poker.
Not 'next'
Already set up - anything that must be taken to a toxic waste sight you have to pay a fee -
Check your state law - it's already in place in mine. Read this insanity

Just like the toilets you have to flush at least twice.
Read post 269 and 281
I only need to flush the toilet twice about once every 200 times. Not sure what you are doing that would require it that often. And yes mine are for all intents and purposes brand new.
Yes..these outdoor variety lights can't accomadate fluorescent lights because these lights aren't rated for outdoor use.
Your right, the scam continues, hopefully America will wake up!!
I’m going by my wife, who gives mixed signals. We put in a few CFL’s around the house, and she even “tricked” me by putting one in the bedroom without telling me. ( I didn’t notice the difference. ) But then she later announced that it was “horrible” etc. etc. because of the color appearance of various clothing items. Being male, I can only perceive maybe 4 or 5 color tones, so it’s a wash to me, but theory supports my wife.
No
And they will continue,,,know why?
Because we all are ready to hoard bulbs , which I am doing too, but we don't demand they stop this nonsense now - this one more intrusion on our rights -
they WILL continue until we won't even be allowed to speak out.
It's "Speak now or forever hold your speech, Comrade."
This is just another test run to see how easy We the People will capitulate
Guess we are all reverting back to candles and fireplaces for warmth and light.
Fluroscent lights give me headaches and make me sick.
Since I’m saving around $25 a month on my electric bill since switching, I’d have told my wife I didn’t care even if she did’t like the tone unless she wanted to take it out of her clothing budget. But that’s just me. Fortunately, my wife didn’t notice a significant difference either.
Like the millions of these bulbs that will NOT be taken to the hazardous waste centers but tossed in the trash - contaminating every landfill in the country with mercury?
How much Super Fund money will it take to clean up every landfill in the country?
How many privates homes will have the problem this lady has - and how many children will be exposed to mercury vapor?

The state, in this article, tried to weasel out, lying about the state mandate for disposing these - your state does/will have the same mandates. READ it WELL

Offered for meditative purposes:
If some carbonate of soda be ignited in the flame of a Bunsen
burner, it will furnish an abundance of pure homogeneous light
of an orange-yellow hue. This light is quite bright enough to
illuminate objects in a darkened room, but all distinctions of
color vanish, light and shade only remaining. A red rose exhibits
no more colour than its leaves; gayly painted strips of paper show
only as black or white or grey; their colours can not even be guessed
at. The human face divested of its natural colour assumes an
appearance which is repulsive, and the eye in the absence of
colour dwells on slight defects in the clearness and smoothness of
the complexion. If now an ordinary gas burner be placed near the
soda flame, and allowed at first to burn only with a small flame,
objects will resume their natural tints to some slight extent, and
begin again faintly to clothe themselves with pleasant hues, which
will deepen as more light is furnished, till they finally seem fairly
to glow with radiant beauty. Those who have never witnessed an
experiment of this kind have but little conception how great would
be to us the loss of our sense for colour, or how dreary the world
would seem, divested of the fascinating charm which it casts
over all things.

Save the planet? Let's NOT let them get away with that mantra on this mercury toxic product
http://www.maine.gov/dep/rwm/homeowner/fluorescent.htm
But it will get worse - millions of these will be tossed in the regular trash - contaminating every landfill in the country -
How 'green' is that
Wouldn’t it be cool if we had a candidate that was against moronic shit like this? I was Thompson talking about global warming crap, and he’s not it... We are so #$*^#$*( (ed)!?
What a country...
I am sure the problems with the compact bulbs will continue. The government didn’t do enough research here. I am sad that they overwhemly passed this stupid bill.
