CHULA VISTA A middle school student was arrested Tuesday after a teacher saw him fashioning a small knife out of wood during a shop class.
The boy, who is in eighth grade at Castle Park Middle School, was taken into custody about 11:15 a.m. and then released to his parents, said Chula Vista police spokesman Bernard Gonzalez.
The boy has been suspended for four days, said Sweetwater Union High School District spokeswoman Lillian Leopold. When he returns to school after the holiday break he will also undergo counseling, Leopold said.
District policy says that a student will be expelled if they are found in possession of a knife with a blade 3½ inches or longer, Leopold said.
The knife the boy made was 2 inches long, she said.
Thank goodness for California, making my local Florida officials idiocy for arresting the kid who brought a steak knife to school seem ALMOST sane.
You’ll poke your eye out, Kid.
Does this mean he failed in grade with his project?
Well, if nothing else he will get an A in life's learning.
I hope he goes on to to become a true conservative with a zest to fight this insane yet trivial infliction on society that the moonbat's have bestowed upon us.
For the sake of humanity, feed him saltines!!! LOL!

I built a four stacker (gasp) gun rack and got an A without being expelled, arrested, and convicted for something...anything...
He'll learn from his mistakes and use his spare eye and become a fighter pilot someday.
If you showed someone that in 1957, or even in 1965, no one would have believed it.
Of course if he bought a real one with a steel blade at a sporting goods store, no one would mind. Idiots.
First of all, it wasn’t a knife. It was wood in the shape of a knife.
Next thing is to suspend anyone who carves wood or soap in the shape of a knife and accuse them of posessing a knife.
Only completely stupid idiots can’t tell the difference between a thing and a representation of the thing.
He'd be on the honor's roll if instead he carved a wooden condom, or made anything related to globull warming.
I still have my chisel! I also made an an ashtray that was cast out of aluminum, made a wooden pattern of a hollowed out star. Today a kid may get kicked out of school for possession of an ashtray.
Can’t we pass a zero tolerance law for STUPIDITY? These teachers need to be charged.
When I was in shop class (metal shop, not wood shop), we all made letter openers. Mine had a 7” blade, a blood groove and a leather bound handle. It looked alot like a KBar. After it was tempered, it could do a job on a letter.
Would you be saying the same thing, if he had then taken the 'knife' to Art class, and crafted a wax 'representation' of his math teacher, then killed him by sticking the 'knife' into the voodoo doll of the 'teacher'?
Schools must consider all scenarios, for every one's safety. It's for the children!

Up untill the early 80’s in Wis. maybe a bit later
