CHULA VISTA A middle school student was arrested Tuesday after a teacher saw him fashioning a small knife out of wood during a shop class.
The boy, who is in eighth grade at Castle Park Middle School, was taken into custody about 11:15 a.m. and then released to his parents, said Chula Vista police spokesman Bernard Gonzalez.
The boy has been suspended for four days, said Sweetwater Union High School District spokeswoman Lillian Leopold. When he returns to school after the holiday break he will also undergo counseling, Leopold said.
District policy says that a student will be expelled if they are found in possession of a knife with a blade 3½ inches or longer, Leopold said.
The knife the boy made was 2 inches long, she said.

90% of the tools in the shop were more dangerous weapons.

Heck, I made a cannon when I was in high-school. Forty pounds of brass after I cut all the sprues off.

Pencils are longer than 3 1/2 inches...so are pens. Better expel the entire student body.
Abject morons and nincompoops are in control of most schools.

My grandkids and I have wood shields and swords.
The kids ought to call the cops on the teachers though. I bet they all have 12 inch wood blades in their desks. They are called rulers.

Taken into custody?
Strip search? Mug shots? Drug test? Finger prints? DNA sample?

Taken into custody for what? Is there a law in Chula Vista that forbids making artwork in woodshop? Note to family: Sue the police, ASAP. Going after districts usually isn’t anywhere near as profitable. Besides, get this in front of a jury, and they’ll go wacko. ‘My son made this’ says the mother, holding it up, then with the court’s permission, walks to the jury box as it was impossible to see at that distance. ‘And was arrested for it.’

I made a longbow in shop class, it would drive an arrow through a haybale.

This reminds me of an episode of King of the Hill when Hank volunteered to be a shop teacher.
