LOL. Rock, a pretty leftist guy, was on the faculty at UCSB when I did my doctoral work there, but, no, so far I haven’t gotten to him. I’m reading “Talons of teh Eagle,” “Making the Americas,” “Economic History of LA,” and “Empire’s Workshop” for starters.

My undergraduate mentor at Fordham was Hector Lindo Fuentes, who taught at UCSB in the late 80s/early 90s. He is also a descendant of this guy, one of the few people to have been President of two countries:
