NEW YORK — Russian President Vladimir Putin was named the Time magazine "Person of the Year."

Richard Stengel, Time's managing editor, said the 2007 honor went to the Russian leader "for an extraordinary feat of leadership in taking a country that was in chaos and bringing it stability."

Others in the running for the honor included Nobel Prize-winner Al Gore and author J.K. Rowling

So much for the liberal rumor making the rounds that it would be “Al Gore”. LOL

Well, Algore was first runner-up, in second place ("Who does number two work for?" FLUSH!)

Has Time ever put Bush on the cover as Person of the Year?

Apparently the ends justify the means with Time Magazine. That is of course unless it requires waterboarding.

I’m sure J.K. Rowling made a strong late charge by making the hip, progressive pronouncment that head wizard of Hogwarts, Dumbledore was a queer.

Time clearly sees “stability” as a more significant outcome than “freedom”. Well, at least eveyone will have their papers in order. Or else.

It's actually quite an astute maneuver on Time's part. It reduces the likelihood that one of its journalists will be arrested and sent to the Gulag.

They don't bother to send errant reporters to the Gulag anymore, they just shoot them on the street.

Perhaps Time Magazine could send an investigative reporter to look into this murder????

Yesterday the outspoken anti-Putin journalist Anna Politkovskaya was murdered in the lift of her apartment building which is just a couple of streets from where I live in Moscow. She was killed with three bullets to the body and one to the head.Today many of her supporters gathered for a demonstration at Pushinskaya Square in Moscow. I admired her courage in speaking out about certain government actions she felt were wrong, particularly the situation in Chechnya.Few people expect the murderer to be found given the fact that many other recent 'contract killings' in Russia of high profile figures have gone unsolved."

It’s not an honor. Hitler was Time’s man of the year.

They murder American reporters too. Remember Paul Klebnikov?

From what I have read 80% of the Russian people admire Putin. They see him like we see FDR. The prosperity has been felt all over. Being Russia, they do not have a lot of experience with things like freedom of the press. They might even feel comfortible with a strong man in charge. Its their country-let them pick their rulers. For a strong man at least he is a Christian. Is his body count anywhere near the Clintons estimated list? Time Magazine could have picked someone better I guess, Sarkosy of France?

The MSM, Time inparticular, proves once again itds abject anti-American bias and its afinity for ideologies and individuals that are the anti-thesis of the very foundation of our own nation, our liberty, and way of life.

Time is like Pravda...they cater to the enemies of freedom while, I suppose, hoping one day to get favors from the same. I have news for them, if such tyrants ever came to power here, based on the ideologies Time leans toward, the only favor these foolish useful idiots would get from those tyrants is a bullet in the back of the head.

...and they are moving towards that end as fast as their little leftist feet will take them on ground that has been vouchsafed by the blood of true patriots who have sacrificed their blood and their very lives to defend the principles and foundaltional values that these people hold in such high disregard.

As others have said...it is stunning, but in a sick, twisted way.

O’Reilly is definitely right on this. It figures that Time would pick Putin, but Gore and Rowling (their runner-ups) are equally undeserving.

What idiotic criteria they must have used.

How about that lady from Colorado that saved possibly a 100 lives by gunning down the mass murderer?

Agreed, remember this is a country almost twice as big as America and filthy rich in resources that grubby crooks like Marc Rich and Clinton love to get their hands on. The situation in Russia is no way as simple as some of the analysis here, Putin has to appreciated for restoring stability to Russia and navigating the mess of the Yeltsin years and fighting off the oligarchs intend on amassing their fortunes at the expense of the nation.

They had to go with Putin because Hitler and Stalin are dead.
