I was hoping Barbour himself would take Lott’s Senate seat at some point.

Lott spoke on C-span, I’ve omitted most of ‘em here, Lott vows
to persevere toward failure, and to do it back home. Everyone here smiled hearing that.

The son of U.S. Sen. Trent Lott secured the Web site domain Breauxlott.com in October, a month before the powerful Mississippi Republican announced his retirement and former U.S. Sen. John Breaux, D-La., revealed he was going to open his own lobbying firm.

To: Jet Jaguar
Mississippi Republican Trent Lott officially resigned from the U.S. Senate on Tuesday, ending a 35-year career in which he reached the of height of power before falling from grace and climbing his way back to the top. The TOP? This closet queen has been long overdue to be thrown out, not allowed to resign. The deal he cut on "Power Sharing" when the Senate was 50-50 and we had Cheney to break the tie was the end. The Dems would have NEVER done that. They would have laughed, just like they did when Al Gore came in and voted to affirm the BIGGEST tax increase in history.
Lott needs to be drummed out, and then his Lobbying license needs to be revoked.

Lott resigns with five years left in his current six-year term. He served 16 years in the U.S. House before moving to the Senate in 1988 good argument for term limits

LOTT SORTA THREATENS RUSH LIMBAUGH WITH THE FAIRNESS DOCTRINE
LOTT: . . .I think that was the mistake that was made with immigration. Talk radio defined it without us explaining that there were reasons for it and the good things that were in it. So the onus is not on them. It’s on us to do a better job of communicating what we’re trying to do. . .
— and I will support their right to tell their side of the story, right, left, or the middle, forever. I don’t think in this Fairness Doctrine it would try to require that there be X-amount on both sides is fair. So, you know, it’s caused quite a stir, but, you know, it goes with the territory.

he announced his resignation like 2 days before his brother-in-law (a near-billionaire trial lawyer who was in on the beginning of the tobacco extortion) was indicted on federal charges of attempting to bribe a judge. There is persistent speculation in the jackson legal community that the telephone wiretapping of scruggs caught lott having some conversation which he should not have.
I don’t think 2 days is a coincidence.

Gov. Haley Barbour will appoint a successor to serve until a special election is held next year. The timing of the special election is in dispute. Barbour, a Republican, said he plans to set it for Nov. 4, but state Attorney General Jim Hood, a Democrat, issued a nonbinding opinion this week that the election must be held within 100 days of Lott's departure.
BS Alert!
