Little girls in the militancy-hit Swat Valley in northwestern Pakistan hate a diktat issued by pro-Taliban rebels to attend school in burqas.
Burqas are the only option some girls' schools in northwestern Pakistan have against being shut down or worse, being bombed.
"I want to study, but not in a burqa," said Shah Rukh, a 12-year-old girl enrolled at a primary school at Saidu Sharif in Swat.
Shah Rukh is just one of many girls who have learnt to speak out against the burqa diktat in the picturesque Valley.
"My 11-year-old daughter cries every morning when she has to wear the burqa," Mohammad Roshan, who teaches history at Jahanzeb College in Saidu Sharif, one of the main towns of Swat, told Newsline magazine.
In a private school in Mingora, the headquarters of Swat district, students were enraged when their principal received a letter from militants saying they would shut down the school.
"It is our right to get education," one of the girls in the school said.
A parent said his daughter "is constantly told by her teachers to attend school in a head-to-toe veil ever since the principal of the school received a letter of threat".
Several girls' schools in Swat have received letters with warnings that they will be blown up if the students do not attend classes in burqas.
Time for home schooling in Pakistan.
I time the death of feminism to Juanita Broderick. And it really is unfortunate that feminists turned out to be just hypocritical posers and pro-abortion militants, because there really are a lot of women who could use someone to stand up for them. But hopefully it will never be forgotten that when the going got tough, the feminists bailed.
Something cool, something new, something different. Anti Jesus.
“But hopefully it will never be forgotten that
when the going got tough, the feminists bailed.”
I hold the “environmentalists” generally in the same contempt.
Especially The Sierra Club.
After they had a debate about “should we oppose illegal immigration because
our fragile deserts are getting dumped on by Mexicans, etc.?”
And decided they simply couldn’t come out against illegal immigration
even if it totally F-—ed up the environment of many parts of the USA.
I guess The Sierra Club didn’t want to sound like Republicans.
That is, the Republicans of the early 1990s that hadn’t fallen in with
Dubya and a bunch of Republican Senators like John McCain and Co.
Hypocritical “protectors” of the environment: that’s the NICEST thing
I can say about The Sierra Club.
LOL, NOW’s not gonna act unless the poor girls are forced to wear bra’s
Oh please! They are gonna blow up the school regardless. Making the girls wear burqas only makes them think they are going to be safe from the threat.
...And yet the Christian faith is fast-growing in the global south bigtime.
What are you talking about? NOW members love bush...
Oh, my bad... wrong spelling!
Well that is good. Islam is the fastest growing religion worldwide though, if I remember right. That’s not good....
LOL nice
Thanks for posting back. Merry Christmas. I had watched last week on Bill O’Reily’s Foxnews TV Show an interview of Tony Snow who came out to state during the interview that it is Christanity, not Islam that is the world’s fastest growing faith. Most likely he knows about the growth of the churches in the global south nations. The only reason for growth in Islam is the area of births. But the Christian faith is growing faster because of the missionary activity in the global south and conversions.
Well that’s good news! Christianity still has twice as many followers as Islam, so we’re still ahead! ;)
