Axis Of Evil: Far from complying with United Nations demands, Tehran announces it is building a second nuclear plant. The Iranians need help ousting the fanatics who rule them before the regime obtains the bomb.

The world was treated this week to the television image of Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad in Mecca, Saudi Arabia, for the Muslim pilgrimage Hajj. That sight can't help but bring to mind his denial of the Nazis' genocide of the Jews, his call for Israel to be wiped off the map and his belief in the 12th imam's return as prelude to an apocalyptic holy war.

But seeing Madman Mahmoud in Mecca, however, should make us think of something else, too.

We should consider that before President Carter set the stage for Iran's fundamentalist Islamic revolution three decades ago by abandoning our ally the Shah of Iran, Iranians had become among the most westernized Muslim populace in the world. Consequently, many Iranians — in all likelihood a majority — are as horrified of the sight of Ahmadinejad as an honored guest in Islam's holiest city as we are.

Demonstrations and strikes are almost a daily occurrence in Iran, with about 70% of the population opposed to the mullahs' restrictions on freedom and extreme anti-Western policies, according to the regime's own polling. These seven in 10 are the other Iran, which we have to empower to prevent big trouble for ourselves down the road.

forgive me for being redundant, but I'm going to ask the question again, because it bears asking again:

with oil nearly flowing in its streets, what does iran need with nuclear power? It makes no sense economically.

***

Russia is once again propping up and arming an anti-American dictator.

Pity for the good people of Iran.

If seven out of ten simply refused to go to work the mullahs’ rule would be over. I’m not interested in doing what they won’t do for themselves.

The Iranian youth are more pro-American than British, French, or German youth, for example. Iran has a higher population of US-friendly civilians than some European countries! Some of them like America more than some people who live here. Perhaps we should trade....

Buidling TWO nuclear plants, are they now? February 11—the 29th anniversary of the Islamic Revolution—we ought to drop a bomb. Let’s make the anniversary a blast.
