Washington, D.C.Presidential candidate Congressman Duncan Hunter returned to Washington this morning to immediately begin his efforts to overturn provisions contained in a Democratic spending bill that eliminates current legal requirements for double-layered border fencing. Congress last year passed legislation authored by Hunter, the Secure Fence Act, mandating double-layered fencing and related infrastructure at strategic entry points along the Southwest border.
Now is the time when those who take the threat to our nations borders seriously stand up and be counted, said Hunter. Last year, Congress successfully passed legislation that mandated a double fence requirement based on the success of the border fence weve built in San Diego. The Democrat majority in this Congress has taken it upon themselves to overturn federal law to pursue a policy that does nothing but harm our border enforcement capabilities. This is not leadership, it is irresponsibility.
Border enforcement is too serious of an issue to pursue only when politically convenient at election time. If Congress is to reverse its border stance after just one year, what message does that send to illegal immigrants and drug smugglers who are watching to see how serious we are about protecting Americas borders? I believe we must uphold our nations immigration laws, support our agents serving on the border and protect our border communities and I am going to make every effort to overturn the damage this Democrat leadership has caused.
H.R. 2764, a bill that provides funding for several federal departments and agencies, was brought to the House floor and passed late last evening by the Democratic leadership. Not only does the bill contain provisions removing all specific locations as outlined by the Secure Fence Act, it also removes all requirements to construct any fencing or physical barriers along the border. This action basically repeals the Secure Fence Act and undermines past efforts to secure our nations border.
H.R. 2764 has been referred to the Senate for consideration and then will be returning to the House with any changes in the form of a conference report. Congressman Hunter is working with his colleagues in both the House and Senate to ensure that these dangerous provisions do not remain in the final version of the funding bill.
South Korea has a pretty effective fence.
It is designed prevent/slow an all out invasion.
It has worked since the 50’s
“If every person who said Hes a really great congressman but... were to send him $25, he would find himself with a few million dollars immediately.”
And probably a stronger position.
Isn’t it amazing how some of the GOP leaders can spend and spend and spend and gain no ground, yet there are those who say Hunter should quit. Why shouldn’t the “leaders” that can not control spending and who are not gaining any ground quit? I am a conservative on social and fiscal issues. I see no reason to believe that those who have to spend, spend, spend should be considered as fiscal conservatives, much less social conservatives.
Exactly
And I thought most dems that are not up for re-election were trying to block it.

We currently spend $15-25 million/mile for interstate highways, we can easily afford $6-10 million/mile on national security infrastructure.
"...and people don't want to give up their property to build it."
Then THEY ought be mandated fence it off, be fenced off, or lose the property. Their refusal and not doing so ought subject the property owner to all liabilities stemming from allowing aliens access across their property.
Exactly!!
AMEN!!!!!!
How does one force those who forced this reduction to take responsibility? They’ll be behind a fence of their own, within their gated communities.
He needs to use it to get face time on all the talk shows and tell people that, if elected, he will build the fence in 6 MONTHS.
“How does one force those who forced this reduction to take responsibility?”
Call them at their Wash DC offices and tell them what a bunch of back stabbing, anti-American sellouts they really are and that you look forward to the day when they are unemployed.
After speaking with my congresscritter’s office, the only thing passed last night was the “ominous” bill, which sort of screwed the border fence.
“This is Duncan Hunters signature issue. Duncan Hunter should use this to call a press conference and explain exactly what is happening to the fence (name names).
He needs to use it to get face time on all the talk shows and tell people that, if elected, he will build the fence in 6 MONTHS.”
That’s a good idea. I think that the conservative media should be calling HIM to come on their shows.
Conservative Media??? LOL, What conservative media?
He needs to be aggressive on this and take the bull by the horns.
I’m a relative newbie. I don’t know which freeper has contact with the Hunter campaign, but whoever does should pass the idea along to him.
Thank you, Duncan Hunter! (I really wish his presidential campaign had some traction.)
B4DH, thanks for the ping.
