A real cross would have been fine. The subliminal cross, from a candidate running as a "Christian leader" does grate on some people.

Exactly. That's the point. It's not the cross. Moreover, it's the denial that it was intentional that is disturbing in a presidential candidate. To imagine that a production crew wouldn't notice it? Pfft. Every nuance and detail is planned. It's what they do for a living. They don't just point their cell phone cams and call it a wrap.

Unfortunately, it looks like the media treatment is devolving into appreciation of how well Mike Huckabee spins the situation and lies to extricate himself from trouble.

Sounds familiar, doesn’t it...

Somehow ^%$#^%$#564 @#$@$%#@#$ %$%^#45 %$353 ###$@###$ just doesn’t sufficiently express oneself....

I’m signing off and headed to Eden Prairie, MN to spend Christmas with my son’s wonderful family......before I get banned for life....

Merry Christmas partner — and don’t do anything serious until I get back....

It was a common Southern joke, </punchline> Oh Humor Challenged One.

I guess I am going to have to start labeling my punchlines as above.

There is nothing funny about lying, nor is it a Southern trait. It also isn’t funny to repeatedly accuse a lifelong Southerner of being a North-Easterner. You accuse me, without knowing me, of being (1) a non-Southerner, and (2) lacking a sense of humor. Maybe you could work on your social skills, and be just a little nicer, kinder, and/or more considerate. Just a thought.

Your friend in Christ.

So you think it’s a nice thing to falsely accuse another person, and then slap them around if they don’t find false accusations funny. That is just plain mean.

I am not sure why you have taken such umbrage at my comments that were actually designed to elicit a laugh from you, but I apologize for any misunderstanding.

Thank you for your civil reply. Since you are mystified over my reaction to your comments, I will explain. There are some Southerners who don’t like to be accused of being North-Easterners even once, much less repeatedly. This is because to us being Southern means something [something good, that is], and we are not ashamed to claim that heritage.

Secondly, I had been expecting you to address my original comments, and not simply to lob a (false) accusation about my region of birth/upbringing. I made a valid point about Huckabee and his commercial [the merit of which was subsequently underscored by other Freepers in the same thread], and it was weird to find myself immediately under fire for not being a Southerner (when in fact I AM a Southerner!), and also being falsely accused of not even understanding that most basic of Southern terms, ‘ya’ll’. It just seemed like you were jumping on my every word, twisting it backwards, and throwing it back at me. Whew. Not fun.

Finally, on the humor point. To me, it is just not friendly to say to a person, “Because you didn’t yuck it up over all those false things I said about you, you are humor challenged.” Maybe if the situation were reversed, and you found yourself being repeatedly accused of hailing from Massachusetts, you’d find it hysterically funny. If so, we are just very different people. I saw nothing funny in having you throw the Connecticut thing at me again and again. [Last time I checked, that is not the flag of CT flying over my homepage.] If you think it’s wrong of me to dislike being called a North-Easterner, then do you think it’s wrong of a person to love the South, and to love being a Southerner? As for me, I know a lot of Southerners who would have seen even less humor than I did, in being accused of hailing from the North-East. They, to use your word, would truly have taken umbrage.

Anyway, thanks for the apology. It is accepted, and merry Christmas to you.

Surprise....I’m still on line..

My son ran an Ethernet jack into the guest suite — KNOWING I’m addicted to reading from the web until early morning hours... He called to inform me before I left, to suggest I bring my ThinkPad along this time.

This is nice!
I’ll be able to keep up with things for the next couple of weeks while we’re here in Minnesota, freezing my California a$$ off..
