House Speaker Nancy Pelosi , D-Calif., admitted Thursday that she had underestimated the willingness of Republicans to stand behind President Bushs Iraq policy despite the drubbing the GOP took in the polls in 2006.
The assumption I made was that the Republicans would soon see the light, she said. Instead, the minority stuck to the presidents war policy in the face of unrelenting pressure from congressional Democrats and powerful lobbying campaigns by anti-war groups.
Bush has consistently refused to accept any limitations on his authority to direct military operations in Iraq, or on funds destined for the war effort. Democrats have been unable to muster enough votes to force him to accept a timetable for withdrawal of combat troops or a change in their mission in Iraq.
The grassroots are justifiably disappointed and I am too that we have not done more to end this war, Pelosi said.

Sounds like Pelosi’s got herself into a quagmire of her own, and cut and ran instead of trying the surge.
Nancy, you miscalculated our MILITARY’s determination on Iraq.
HEY NANCI, YOU BLOCKHEAD, PERHAPS THAT SUPPORT IS BECAUSE THEY ALL KNOW THE IMPORTANCE OF FIGHTING THIS FIGHT AND WINNING THIS WAR. I just can’t believe the arrogant stupidity of these imbeciles.
I was going to say that it’s amazing that this woman still doesn’t get it: the War in Iraq is over; the good guys (US) won, the bad guys (al queda and Dems) lost. But, really, it’s more than amazing; it’s frigtening. To think that someone as obtuse and uneducable is the Speaker of the US House of Repesentatives should send chills up the spine of every freedom-loving American.
I want the war ended, too, Miss P, but the only dead war is a won war.
Pelosi used the term “miscalculated”. To calculate, one needs a brain. Ergo, she can never miscalculate. Perhaps she can just shake her thingie at some male and attempt to fool him into assuming she is capable of conscious thought. Worked before...she is a “public servant”.
The grassroots are justifiably disappointed and I am too that we have not done more to end this war, Pelosi said.
We are doing what we need to do to end this war - get rid of the bad guys. Not too hard to figure out.
This bitch is disconnected from reality. She needs a botox shot in her tongue.
This woman is about as stupid as it’s possible to be.
It’s called “convictions”, and I completely understand why someone like you would have trouble wrapping your brain around the concept, Nancy-boy.
The Jihad has been going on for 1350+ years, (almost as old as the wrinkles on you butt!) The Iraq War, by normal definitions is OVER, DONE, and we WON! The Jihadist threat continues and you haven’t a clue. Get outta the way!
She should go back to California and exploit her illegal alien agricultural workers in person, not as an absentee landlord.
She’s nothing but a dirty capitalist pig in disguise.
I wish I were as optimnistic as you.
I think we’re doing substantially well in Iraq.
But I have serious concerns about the military, judicial and overall civil service structure in Iraq - not to mention the possibility of a civil war occurring if and when we leave.
It’s well understood that nothing comes easy in rebuilding a country like this from the bottom up. There’s gonna be bumps in the road.
In short, I’m not ready to delcare victory yet.
well put...I would have to think that the fact that no prominent Democrat can seem to bring themselves to publically congratulate our troops on their success will come back and bite them.
Can’t the woman count? She had less of a majority to work with than Newt had in 1995. If the voters were against the war in November, 1996, it was because things were going badly in Iraq. She bet the farm on the failure of the “surge.” hoping to break away some pubbies before the Surge really began in June? I’ll give Boehner credit. He will make an effective speaker if we win in’08.
I’d prefer she return the the East Coast where she originated from. We don’t want her here in Cali.
Nancy miscalculated the determination of Americans to win. If she were in fact an American, she would understand.
Let me guess, she still has no intention of stopping her parties efforts to un-win the war before the election.
