Pelosi Says She Miscalculated GOP Determination on Iraq
Congressional Quarterly ^

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi , D-Calif., admitted Thursday that she had underestimated the willingness of Republicans to stand behind President Bushs Iraq policy despite the drubbing the GOP took in the polls in 2006.
The assumption I made was that the Republicans would soon see the light, she said. Instead, the minority stuck to the presidents war policy in the face of unrelenting pressure from congressional Democrats and powerful lobbying campaigns by anti-war groups.
Bush has consistently refused to accept any limitations on his authority to direct military operations in Iraq, or on funds destined for the war effort. Democrats have been unable to muster enough votes to force him to accept a timetable for withdrawal of combat troops or a change in their mission in Iraq.
The grassroots are justifiably disappointed and I am too that we have not done more to end this war, Pelosi said.

One more time, Democrats: You need to realize that you won the House by narrowly winning a lot of close races where you had relatively conservative Democrats running against weak Republicans in districts that voted for Bush. You didn't win because of all the code-pinkos who now think they own the Democratic Party.

Just think of the America deaths she and reid, schumer and their ilk can take full credit for. With full congressional support, we could have well ended the Iranian interference and the Mukie incidents before the constitutional election in Iraq.
Politics end at the border, but in their defense we must ask, do we still have borders?

Sounds like Pelosis got herself into a quagmire of her own, and cut and ran instead of trying the surge. Nailed it in one.

Pelosi is a FAILURE.
Politically she isn't.
After all, she IS the first female speaker of the house. OK, she succeeded at getting elected, but failed to perform as she said she would. I wouldn't consider Carter to be a success just for getting the job, I consider him a failure too.

What she failed to grasp was that what consensus there was against the Iraq war was built upon the false reports coming out of the MSM...but even the MSM is having a hard time keeping a lid on the marked improvement in the situation in Iraq, and hence the “mandate” she was counting on does not exist.

Pelosi and her brethren extremist leftists also misjudged the resolve of the majority of the populace regarding victory in Afghanistan, Iraq, and elsewhere against our murderous Islamist enemy world wide. But lack of common sense is a bona fide occupational skill with socialist losers.
