Sometimes we forget that before Howard Deans infamous YEARRRGH! moment, there were a bunch of signs that he was hitting the skids beforehand. First there were a couple of brusque debate moments I remember Peggy Noonan comparing him to a teapot that looked ready to boil over. But the other big warning sign came when a guy at an Iowa town hall meeting asked for less negative campaigning and a Biblical teaching of love thy neighbor, and Dean gruffly snapped to a George Bush is not my neighbor. When the questioner interrupted Dean, he shouted, You sit down! You had your say, and now I'm going to have my say."
It wasnt Iowa friendly.
It wasnt a total meltdown, but Hillary Clintons interview with NBCs David Gregory this morning might be another one of those red-flag moments. The guys at NewsBusters have a transcript and video highlights.
I understand Hillary's urge to emphasize the Des Moines Register endorsement, but she returns to it robotically, and just refuses to acknowledge Gregorys question about recent lines of attack on Obama.
I guess the reaction to this exchange will come down to whether you think it's legitimate to ask Hillary about her husband saying that electing Obama is a crapshoot. Gregory tries to get some specifics, on what makes Obama so risky, and she just keeps ignoring it, and saying You get change through hard work. Theres quite a bit of crosstalk, and after the fourth or fifth invoking of the endorsement, if it were in person, one wonders if she would whack Gregory with a rolled up Des Moines Register newspaper, and say, Read it! Read it!
I suspect that mext year, if Hillarys president, David Gregory is going to be the first taxpayer to get daily audits.
And if she IS the nominee, David Gregory and Tim Russert should be very, very, very afraid. The only thing more vindictive than a beaten Hillary is a winning Hillary.
I had forgotten about that arrogant exchange of Dean’s.Never thought it played into Iowa but glad you posted this.Kerry also did that to a questioner and accused him of being a Republican.Like a President isn’t “ of all the people”.What jerks!
I don’t know whether she’s going to make it through the primaries or not; I suspect she’ll be the candidate for ‘08 but it gives me the warm fuzzies to read articles of her possible demise. I remember many people were predicting Bill’s ouster during the Monica fiasco but he remained. Does Obama have the brass to stick it to her?
Hope Barbara’s watching from Heaven!
She’s gonna let one rip?!?
“I suspect that next year, if Hillarys president, David Gregory is going to be the first taxpayer to get daily audits.”

There’s the real rub, aye, the more the aura of “inevitability” crumbles, the less afraid reporters become of her and the more bold they get. The more bold reporters get, the more her aura of “inevitability” crumbles. And so on and on.
What had helped sustain the inevitability among journalists, dem hacks and the business lobby, was the thought of the terrible retribution she would wreak on anyone who had dissed her when she finally assumed the throne.
I predict that the more that what Dick Morris dubbed “The Fear Factor” lessens, the more the long suppressed, pent-up, plastered-over rage at what the Clintons have done to the hag-ridden democrat party over the years and their manipulating and intimidating of the media is going to break loose like the Jonestown dam.
Howard Dean did not spontaneously melt down. He didn’t do anything more intemperate than what ol’ Uncle Teddy does on a weekly basis. It’s just that the media played up that moment. I was paying very close attention at the time and I recall that almost exactly two weeks before the scream, the media suddenly turned on Deano and started focusing on his warts and tics. Indeed, almost exactly from the day National Review published his red-faced mug in full cry on its cover with the caption: “Please Nominate This Man!” The MSM knew he would never win the general and, as if by mutual consent, they joined in taking him down.
They are desperate to think of Obama as a real alternative to the Beast not just as an opportunity to expiate their white guilt, but as a Claudius to Billary’s Caligula.
Your little dogs have more brains than about half of the American voting public. They know a danger to them when they hear it.
Excellent work, Phil!
I’m sure Barbara is smiling even now.
Herself talks in swipes--frantic swipes that do not connect to a the interviewer's questions or statements.
She's pathetic, and if the Kool-Aiders and MSM will wipe the drool off of their chins, the granulated tears of worship out of their eyes and the petrified wax out of their ears, they might recognize this snake-oil barker for what she is--unless, of course, she promises each of them $5,000 for every baby they can produce.
Lol, she won’t be watching Bubba I hope.
I believe that The Impeached and Disbarred former president cheated to “win” his second term. This frightens me: Herself, the Cold and Hate-Filled may “win” the same way.
.
Let’s see her try to cover up all of her and Slick Willie’s krazy komments now
I pinged you to a thread with an article of Gregory’s interview of Hillary. It’s hilarious. She can’t deal with being forced to reply.
I had an opportunity, once, to listen to and meet BKO. It was one of the highlights of my life. I admired her. F**k the b*****ds that killed her.
Bernard Goldberg in his 2002 Bias depicted Dan Rather as a ruthless partisan ruling a fiefdom. Rather stumbled and was carried out by pole bearers a short time later.
Machiavelli indicated the people would obey, but only if the prince were adept.
Incompetence will elicit contempt, but not obedience.
The media would be wise to know it will have little more freedom under a Hillary regime than it would operating in Putin's Russia.
Best it take her down now or suffer a long dark night of the specter of her wrath.
So did Ken Lay, Jimmy Carter and the Edsel designers.
That’s funny!
She'll go after Dick Morris first, then Rush, then Tim Russert and any other journalist who dared to stand up to her - and then the rest of us. Revenge is one thing she does know.
