Looks like good tactics to me that saved dozens. Took alot of bravery to draw fire unarmed IMO. I dont see the problem with any of it, but the church seems to have an issue. I can understand if hes using it for personal gain, but that doesnt seem to be what the church is upset about, at least from the article.
If how he handled the crisis has got the church leadership in an uproar, then Ive got a bit of a problem with the church leadership.”
Only problem is, the person who gave and promoted the above version of events was none other than Mr.Burbonnais himself.
I haven’t read of any independent witnesses corroborating him.
The church has spoken ... so you will not hear from any witnesses.
If what you say is true, then he would have appeared so in the various news interviews. He was not. He was controlled and explained what happened in a very clear and convincing manor.
Re: ineptitude in novice CCW holding volunteers
" Huh? The woman acted professionally and is a veteran police officer.
Larry's talking about the 2 that failed to act, especially the one in close proximity to him during the event. By Assam's own testimony, she saw the perp enter the building and took cover immediately. That was according to her, to wait until he got closer. However closer, wasn't in the direction he was headed, since his targets were situated in the church itself, not the lobby.
LArry recognized the danger of allowing the perp to advance any further into the church than he already had. Since Larry didn't mount his diversion until after the perp entered the church, I think Larry's diversion enabled Assam to exit cover and put a bead on the distracted perp. Had Larry not done that, Assam might easily been shot dead when she came out of cover to engage the perp. Instead, when Assam came out, the perp was engaged in an attempt to perforate Larry.
"You really don't know what you're talking about.
LOL!
Why did an unarmed man get wounded and the two guys with guns escaped unscathed?
locater bump
I haven’t met Larry, nor even seen him on tv. Could you tell me what about your meeting convinced you he’s a nut? There are so many others who say he seemed perfectly rational on tv. Maybe if you told us something specific about his behavior or comments it would clear things up.
I met Larry on several occasions and once spent the better part of a day with him. I know people who know him well. That’s all I can say as I need to protect them from further embarrassment.
I guess I’ll just have to take your word for it then. That won’t be easy with so many people saying otherwise, and the circumstances suggesting otherwise. But I’ll do my best. Are you sure there isn’t one little thing you reveal about him?
interesting; fyi ping
I'm not at all surprised he's in conflict with the church leadership or that the media dropped him quickly.
What’s interesting is that I read about this on a news web site and posted a question on the long thread. When I went back for the link, I found nothing about this anymore.

Thanks for your posts. You have been here since 2001, so I give you the benefit of the doubt over Larry. I don’t see anyone substantiating Larry’s story. After I first heard it, I thought that Jeanne Assam might mention his actions, but she didn’t. Of course it is possible that she was so focused on the shooter, that she didn’t notice.
But, I find it had to believe that he acted as he claims, and that no other person has come forward to congratulate him.
I do not believe that any chuch that has gone through what that church has gone through, would have lots of parishoners who would back up their pastor in a lie.
I also was impressed with the pastor and his accuracy; for example he quickly corrected the idea that Jeanne was a paid security guard.
I have considerable doubts about Larry.
huh. Now, that’s kinda odd, do you think? The article disappeared?
So what. That pattern of behavior was perfectly acceptable for a President of the United States, aka #42... /grin
Seriously, however, it makes no difference whatsoever what YOU saw or claimed to see in your encounters with him. The only thing that matters is how he acted in during THIS incident. Since you weren't an eyewitness, your opinion is simply speculation. You might be right, but your assertions are unproven.
This church was founded by prominent homosexual Ted Haggard, so conflict should be no surprise.
“Its that Haggard guys old church, isnt it?”
Yep. Strange.
Well...what can you say? They kicked him out too.
You’ll definately want to read post #64
LOL!
On the other side of this, the only evidence of how Larry acted is by his own account. It is not as if he is a disinterested observer.
Thus Colorado Tanker’s assessment becomes quite important in determining Larry’s credibility.
