Barack Obama Goes to Church, Talks About His Faith Amid Internet Muslim Rumors
Fox News ^

MASON CITY, Iowa — Democrat Barack Obama on Sunday confronted one of the persistent falsehoods circulating about him on the Internet.

He went to church.

His attendance here at the First Congregational United Church of Christ, with the news media in tow, was as much an observation of faith as it was a rejoinder to baseless e-mailed rumors that he is a Muslim and poses a threat to the security of the United States.

So he will swear on the bible if he wins the presidency? Not the Koran?

*****

Likely neither....
He will consider the taking of such an oath contrary t his worldview/faith/what-have-you... pick one.

Lemme see....
He considers a lapel pin of the US flag an inappropriate symbol of patriotism...
He does not respect or salute the flag during the Pledge of Allegiance.

Naaahhhh.... the answer is "neither"....

Someone here had a link for a concise life timeline of Obama. Would love to get that!

This one is pretty good.

rumors that he is a Muslim and poses a threat to the security of the United States.

I really get a kick out of advancing this rumor to my liberal friends when we discuss candidates. It’s fun watching the steam coming out of their ears and nose as I voice my concerns about his muslim beliefs with a serious expression on my face.

Oh, I get it. He was a practicing student of islam, but not a true member. It’s sorta like “but I didn’t inhale”...;’}

I overheard some elderly Democrats at a diner the other day who all seemed to think he was a Muslim, and they would not support him as a result.

Of course you’re both right. The UCC as a denomination is an extremely liberal church. However, Obama’s particular UCC church is a pro-black, pro-Jackson/Sharpton, pro-reparations, “the white man is causing me to suffer”, anti-Bush, activist church. A quick perusal of their website and online magazine demonstrates that suijuris isn’t too far off in his/her assessment.

He went to a Muslim school but it doesn’t mean he became a Muslim,

Never said he became a Muslim - - he was born a Muslim.

His grandfather was a Muslim. His father was a Muslim. His stepfather was a Muslim.

I don't know what he considers himself now - - but he was, by birth and blood, a Muslim.

He was an elementary aged student who attended a public school in a Muslim country. He learned lessons about Islam, because all of the public schools in Indonesia teach Islam. His step-father was a Muslim, and I believe he went to mosque with him on some occaisions. That is all there is to it. I don’t believe he is much of a Christian, but he isn’t a Muslim.

Obama has several political views that are worthy of substantial criticism. Why do so many here insist on making fun of his name, and claiming he is a Muslim, when there is plenty of evidence to the contrary.

Is it not sufficient that he believes that all women should be entitled to federally funded abortions at any point in their pregnancy, or that he wants to pull out of Iraq? How about that he believes in increasing taxes, or supports joining the Kyoto protocol?

When all we talk about is his name or his ties to Islam, it gives the impression that there isn’t any genuine criticism of him as a candidate. There are plenty and I believe that it would be beneficial to focus on them.

In 1988, Obama fell under the spell of a leftist black nationalist preacher, Jeremiah A. Wright, who preaches African-American unity through antipathy toward whites.  Reverend Wright remains a major influence on the presidential candidate.  The title of Obama’s second book, The Audacity of Hope, is borrowed from one of Wright’s sermons.

Ben Wallace-Wells notes in Rolling Stone: “This is as openly radical a background as any significant American political figure has ever emerged from, as much Malcolm X as Martin Luther King Jr.”

Obama became a member of the Trinity United Church of Christ (UCC).

Trinity United Church of Christ adopted the Black Value System written by the Manford Byrd Recognition Committee chaired by Vallmer Jordan in 1981.  They believe in the following 12 precepts and covenantal statements.  These Black Ethics must be taught and exemplified in homes, churches, nurseries and schools, wherever Blacks are gathered.  They must reflect on the following concepts:

1. Commitment to God
2. Commitment to the Black Community
3. Commitment to the Black Family
4. Dedication to the Pursuit of Education
5. Dedication to the Pursuit of Excellence
6. Adherence to the Black Work Ethic
7. Commitment to Self-Discipline and Self-Respect
8. Disavowal of the Pursuit of "Middleclassness"
9. Pledge to make the fruits of all developing and acquired skills available to the Black Community
10. Pledge to Allocate Regularly, a Portion of Personal Resources for Strengthening and Supporting Black Institutions
11. Pledge allegiance to all Black leadership who espouse and embrace the Black Value System
12. Personal commitment to embracement of the Black Value System.

Please read the "Black Value System" again -- only this time, substitute the word "White" for "Black."

If your church had such a "White Value System" Jesse and Al and the NAACP would have 10,000 demonstrators out front in a heartbeat.

Nobody, except Obama knows if his conversion to Christianity is real or not.

Trinity describes itself as a "congregation which is Unashamedly Black and Unapologetically Christian.  Our roots in the Black religious experience and tradition are deep, lasting and permanent.  We are an African people, and remain "true to our native land," the mother continent, the cradle of civilization."

"Trinity has a non-negotiable commitment to Africa, is committed to the historical education of African people in diaspora and committed to liberation, restoration, and economic parity."

Trinity is very anti-Israel and supports divestment.

At the UCC General Synod in 2005, the denomination adopted a resolution calling for “equal marriage rights for all,” regardless of gender.  This includes homosexuals and transgender individuals.

On October 29, 2006, Dallas's Cathedral of Hope, known as the “world’s largest gay church,” was accepted into the UCC.

Obama's pastor Jeremiah A. Wright told The New York Times in an interview, published March 6th, 2007,  "When his (Obama's) enemies find out that in 1984 I went to Tripoli," with Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan to visit Libyan leader Moammar Gadhafi, "a lot of his Jewish support will dry up quicker than a snowball in hell."

Dear ga medic,

In Islam, the children of Muslims are Muslims. His father and stepfather were Muslim, and it appears that he was registered as a Muslim when attending school in Indonesia, and likely received Islamic religious education during his time in an Indonesian public school.

“Obama has several political views that are worthy of substantial criticism. Why do so many here insist on making fun of his name, and claiming he is a Muslim, when there is plenty of evidence to the contrary.”

I agree. He isn't currenly a Muslim. But it appears that as a small child, he was, indeed, a Muslim.

It seems noteworthy to me that Mr. Obama refuses to acknowledge that he was, as a child, a Muslim.

Absent any affinity to "Jihadist" Islam, and despite the fact that he is too much of a lightweight to be POTUS anytime soon, why should Obama's religious fiath, even if it were Islam, disqualify him as a candidate or as POTUS?

Well before September 11, and to this day, we have very decent neighbors who just "happen" to be Islam, a faith that they share with the surgeon who saved my life, with my dentist, with my family physician, and several friends and colleagues during the years when I "worked for someone else."

My Muslim neighbors wept as they held candles with others in our neighborhood for a few evenings after September 11. You see, they are Americans, as are all of the aforementioned "Muslims" I have mentioned.

My neighbors were quite afraid of the anti-Muslim backlash they expected, and took me up on my offer to apply my training in security and executive protection to, for a couple of weeks, take them shopping and elsewhere in my own vehicle. They declined our invitation to stay in our home, guarded by my dogs, alarm system, and my firepower, which would be kept in abeyance, unless our police department was not up to their usually short response time. My size, deliberate choice of clothing, and demeanor served us well as we quietly, unobtrusively, and without incident went about our business away from our neighborhood. A .45 H & K provided comforting backup from the recesses of my coat as well, and we were accompanied by an "overwatch" vehicle driven by one of my professional associates.

None of my firends beat their wives (or husbands) were burkhas, have a private pilot's license, or have any apparent interest in firearms or the martial arts.

I'm embarassed to say that I had run background checks on some of them when I first met them.

None of them have given any indication that they have a "problem" with Romney's religion -- or anyone else's for that matter -- noting that many of them moved from more southern climes where they were regarded and treated with disdain by their "Christian" neighbors... Happily, we learned that we live in an area in which folks are quite tolerant and well-educated, albeit "liberal"....

I’m curious if his background would/could come into play should he be elected in regard to dealing with Muslim countries.

To me, the most damning evidence is the non-denial denial from one of his minions: "Barack Obama is not a practicing Muslim. That should send a chill down the back of any American.

Because Islam is at war with Western Civilization. They are hostile to any religion or ideology that is not Islam. Islam is the anthrax of religions.

In the eyes of Islam, he is definitely a Muslim.

If your father is a Muslim, which he was, then that makes him a Muslim for life, whether he likes it or not. And his stepfather in the second marriage was a Muslim as well. If your mother marries a Muslim, that makes you a Muslim, like it or not.

So in Muslim eyes, he is either a Muslim or an evil convert to a false religion, who should be killed.

I’m curious about that. When a prominent Muslim renounces his faith, someone always puts a Fatwa out on him and good Muslims try to kill him. How come Obama is not subject to this kind of attack by Muslim fanatics? Could it be that they think he would be very HELPFUL to them if he were elected president?

I notice, too, that he keeps saying he is a Christian (a very bad Christian, who three times voted against the infants born alive protection act in Illinois), but he never admits that he was ever a Muslim or that he has repudiated Islam. Yet he certainly WAS a Muslim—unless he still IS a Muslim, biding his time and lying to the infidels as Mohammed taught him to do. Does he repudiate all of that, which he studied in his Madrassah?

“It seems noteworthy to me that Mr. Obama refuses to acknowledge that he was, as a child, a Muslim”

Maybe he doesn’t think he was. Children follow the directions of their parents. They don’t decide to attend church or religious schools because of their faith, but because of the faith of their parents. If my parents sent me to a Baptist church and school, I would learn about the Baptist faith, but I wouldn’t truly be Baptist until I myself had accepted Jesus as my Savior.

On the other hand, there are many that try to give the appearance of being religious, but they are not true believers in their faith.

Strangely enough, Obama seems to fit both of these categories. I doubt he ever believed as Muslims believe, and he is being labeled as a Muslim. He tries to show everyone that he is a Christian, but his actions show that he really isn’t.

There are just SO MANY things to dislike about his policies and beliefs, that I think it sounds very petty to keep making fun of his name and accusing him of being a “secret Muslim”.
