I want to raise a cautionary note here. College activists on the left routinely “stage” and fake such assaults, in order to get publicity for their cause. Recall, for example, the girl who ran for student council president at UVA, and more recently, the “noose” stories appearing everywhere.
Would a conservative group try to pull the same antics? I would hope not. But the story of 2 black-clad attackers sounds a little too “perfect” to me.
Not saying there’s a staged event here - but I am looking for some more verification, i.e., at least a description of the injuries, before the doubt leaves me.
Oops — found this:
“Over the weekend, Mr. Nava’s jaw was badly swollen, his face was covered with cuts and abrasions, and the inside of his mouth was bleeding, Mr. George, who was also a target of the death threats, said after visiting Mr. Nava in the emergency room.”
Sounds real to me.
Former hoax and injury details complicate picture of assault
While Nava was a student at the Groton School, the message "Die Fags!" was discovered outside his room. Administrators investigating the incident eventually found that Nava had written the slur himself. According to one source, after the words were discovered to be a hoax, Nava was made to leave Groton and his enrollment at Princeton, which he was admitted to under Early Decision, was postponed. Nava wrote a letter to then-Admissions Director Fred Hargadon explaining the incident. The events at Groton occurred at what some described as a "hard time" for Nava, shortly after his father had died. Unhappy at Groton, Nava hoped the incident of apparent persecution would allow him to return home.[snip]
The officers of the Anscombe Society have been at the forefront of the investigation into the reliability of Nava's account. "We don't want this to be another Nifong," said one. While the past incidents complicate the picture, those closest to the situation have become increasingly convinced that the situation is not a hoax. One officer said that while initially skeptical, he had come to believe Nava's account. The extent of Nava's injuries led another officer to conclude that "In my considered opinion, Nava is telling the truth."
