Fees Only Accounted For A Small Percent Of The Closure Of The Nearly $3 Billion Budget Gap. "Romney campaign spokesman Eric Fehrnstrom said some of the fees that kicked in during Romney's first year had been approved before he became governor. ...

Governor Romney: "Well, they call one a fee and one a tax for a reason. The reason is because with the fee, it is applied directly to people who get a particular service. It's not a service that you have to have, but a service that you'd like to have. And so we did not raise fees on things like car registration or driver's licenses because pretty much everybody has to have that. But some of our fees... for instance, there's a fee for putting a billboard announcing where a McDonalds or Burger King is on the interstate. Those fees haven't been raised in sometimes many, many years, and so we raised them in order to keep up with inflation or to keep up with the cost of providing the service. We didn't raise them except our first year, but it was a source of revenue, and it brought in line the fee that we charge for certain services. And some cases, the cost of providing it."

IMHO Thompson supporters have the passion and charisma but their candidate does not. Just my 2 cents worth and I know many will disagree.

Fred is a slow speaking Tennessee drawling kind of guy. But I don't see any evidence that would suggest that he doesn't want the job less passionately than other candidates. For him to quit his cushy acting and radio job to go through the arduous campaign process, I feel is evidence enough that he wants the job.

Maybe you can further explain your opinion.

Also understand that the "no fire in the belly" line and story is what is being pushed by our DBM. Thus the angry responses you may get from some.

Rudy is done.

The three marriages and the thing with Bernie K, put him out. Different standards for Rs and Ds, you know.

The polls are entirely bs; they are tools of the media.

Some I know from here have sent me the mind-numbing campaigning Hunter’s been doing... not a peep from the press, good or bad. He’s everywhere.

I see what’s in front of me, but I read between the lines.

Why is he ignored? Who don’t they want you to see?

That point Keyes was right about, he was so batty no one listened to what he said about the media pushing instead of the candidates the people want. Paying attention to who they push. We know Huck didn’t soar (NYTs, lib papers), because America’s become social conservative and against abortion all of a sudden... to push others out.
They need someone the dem can beat. There are former Clinton volunteers working in rep campaign offices.

Why is it the only one that did something about the border, is pro-life, has the mil background, is all over China, etc. is not talked about either way? I don’t know his entire history... just putting it out there.

I have and love dogs as well. I just started my dogs on a no grain dog food and they are doing great.

Lady the Lab is 15 and Sadie the Dalmatian is 11.

I’m a die-hard Romney supporter. He is the only candidate, IMO, who has proven he can triumph in the face of overwhelming odds (i.e. Republican governor with an 85% democratic legislature, from campaign underdog to top-tier presidential candidate, ability to maintain grace and composure while under constant personal attack for his religious beliefs, etc.). Most men would have folded like cheap suits, but this man knows how to fight and how to win. I really do believe he’s the only one to beat Hillary.

He simply does not want her to win. If she wins, he will be completely overshadowed by the “first woman president” syndrome.

Yep. "No fire in the belly" for Bill to see Hillary win.

Will pop-media utter that catch phrase to describe Bill?

I’ve given up trying to figure out where Buchanan is coming from.

######

I think he would rather have lived in the period of our founding fathers, wearing wigs, and silk stockings and getting from place to place in a carriage. But he probably would not have cooperated with the visions of our founding fathers then, either.

He might have even been a Tory, based on his current reactionaryism!

He’s just using her candidacy to have his face out there in ours.

You may desperately want and I do not doubt that Thompson desperately wants it but does he convey that and he does not to me and may not to the American public as a whole.

I was pleased that he showed more passion in the debate recently but I still think his overall campaign needs to go up gear or 2.

I tend to disagree slightly here on GWB though understand what you mean.

He has the strength of character not to destroy him if he lost and it was not the be all for him but he showed that he had strong desire to achieve and want it for exactly the reasons you state duty to his country.

Having passion and desire and wanting the Presidency does not mean for your own self importance but for the good of the country.

I was impressed with Fred on that but that was a gift to someone who is used to being on camera like he is.

Also call me shallow but I cannot get past his looks he frankly looks too old to me - call me shallow or what but I worry that he will be perceived by Americans generally to be too old and that could be disastrous especially if it puts Hilliary in the White House.

I agree on that one but have my reservations if will keep this up I sincerely hope he does as he seems to be the only candidate that conservatives as a whole will get behind and without their support I doubt a Republican can win the general election.

I don't doubt you are right there but like Cheney I doubt his appeal to the country in general.

A lot of what I am saying about Thompson I feel you could say about Cheney who you know I am a great fan of but for these very reasons is not and he knows it Presidential material, a great number 2 but not a number one in this media age.

In another era both Cheney and Thompson would have been ideal candidates.
