I still can’t figure out who militant employees think they are.

IMHO, I don't think its "Militant Employees" so much as it is just plain ignorance and lack of common sense on the part of stupid employees. To blame Dillard's or whomever is a stretch and at least the manager did call to apologize........

I used the word ‘militant’ to describe their action not their beliefs. I would agree it is ‘stupid’ or ‘immature’ employees with little experience handling the authority they have. The worst thing is you have some who are adults who don’t understand that administration does not mean blind enforcement of rules. If that was all that was required then why pay anyone to do it. Hook up a computer, program the rules and let it make the decisions. It would be cheaper.
