Mitt Romney stepped up his attacks on GOP rival Mike Huckabee on Saturday, saying his statements that the Bush administration's policies overseas demonstrate an "arrogant bunker mentality" sound like they're coming from a Democrat.
Huckabee wrote the comments in the January-February issue of the journal Foreign Affairs, where he said President Bush's approach has been "counterproductive" and urged a shift in diplomatic tone.
"I had to look again," Romney said in Humboldt, Iowa. "I said, 'Did this come from Barack Obama? Or from Hillary Clinton? Did it come from John Edwards?' No. It was one of our own. It was Gov. Huckabee.
"He said the Bush administration is guilty of an 'arrogant bunker mentality' that has been counterproductive here and abroad. I simply can't believe that. I can't believe he'd say that. I'm afraid he's running for the wrong party. The truth of the matter is this president's kept us safe these last six years."

“Willard didn’t stretch the truth. He lied.”
If that makes you sleep better at night, run with it. I’d call that statement of yours a steaming pile of horse manure.
I don’t care, n00b.
“Hey, don’t say that about chickadees. They are neat birds.”
LOL You’re talking to a bird hunter. ;>)
A boob addressing a n00b. How cute. :)
It doesn’t matter at this point.
All state laws on abortion were frozen when Roe v Wade became the law of the land.
You were talking to another n00b?
Someone RUNNING on compromise cannot be trusted in my view.
“Brave to defend the most hated man in the world.”
everyone I know or know of in uniform, loves the man.
I'm a Hunter supporter who will go to Mitt Romney, and I've met other FReepers who will do the same.
Bill
“Interesting. Some might consider that Romney is going out on a limb by supporting GWB when his negatives are where they are (which are still way above the ratings for congress).”
He’s definitely going out on a limb. I’d count on Romney, Thompson, and Giuliani to do that sort of thing. They’ve been pretty consistent about it.
I’m tired of Republicans stepping out and making statements against the President, as the press invariably takes them and magnifies them 100x over. It happens again and again.
Good for Romney.
Apparently, that hasn't translated into more fundraising.
Did Huckster meet his $1,150,000 goal by December 15th? I see his website (I'd have to buy a new monitor now) that he's changed the goal to $1,150,000 by the end of December. Ooooh, $1,150,000! Huck's in the big leagues now.
“You were talking to another n00b?”
You responded, cutie. :)
Actually, Reagan rarely attacked people personally, as you do. He once said "If we love our country, we should also love our countrymen."
That was his secret you see. He was principled, but he was also likable.
Actually, AK is Alaska. I think you mean AR. I know it’s not important in the big scheme of things.
Criticizing Willard’s record is not a personal attack. I know Team Romney loves to play the victim, but it so rarely works.
Yes I did. I’m curious about you speaking with another n00b.
Huckabee seems to be very socialistic leaning,
bleeding heart type of guy, but a decent human being.
Just not presidential material.
I read the link at 73, and the link doesn't support the spin that you are putting on it. When he said that he was fully sympathetic with attempts to liberalize the outdated abortion law, he certainly sounded adamantly pro-choice. The fact that he made a careful study of the issue and still arrived at a place where he could sign the law and make that statement doesn't support your spin either. While the abortion issue does not show Mr. Romney at his best, your spin of the issue tells us more about your personal hatred of the man than it tells us about him.
Ronald Reagan did the best he could with the situation that he faced. He later regretted his decision and tried to do differently as president. He was the product of an earlier time when the issue was less public and even people who were educated and interested were less informed. These things happen.
Mitt Romney came of age at a time when the issue was more open, but he also came from a family that was sympathetic to the other side because they knew of women dying from illegal abortions. As he's admitted, he was wrong to take the pro-abortion position that he took when he first ran for office. Fortunately, he saw the error of that position when he was in office and made different decisions as governor.
Mr. Thompson is now fifth in many national polls. His best chance of rising is for people to see that Mike Huckabee is not going to be a good president. Many disillusioned Huckabee supporters might turn to Mr. Thompson. Here we have a thread that should focus on Mr. Huckabee's being unfit for the nomination, but you're trying to turn the thread into another smear of Mitt Romney. As usual, your hatred of Mitt Romney is not doing Mr. Thompson any good.
Bill
Good on Romney!
Unfrigginbelievable.
...but you're trying to turn the thread into another smear of Mitt Romney.
It's not a smear, and your inclusion of the word "another" is personally abusive.
