Clinton Library Got Funds From Abroad: Saudis Said to Have Given $10 Million
Washington Post ^ | Saturday, December 15, 2007 | By John Solomon and Jeffrey H. Birnbaum

Bill Clinton's presidential library raised more than 10 percent of the cost of its $165 million facility from foreign sources, with the most generous overseas donation coming from Saudi Arabia, according to interviews yesterday.

The royal family of Saudi Arabia gave the Clinton facility in Little Rock about $10 million, roughly the same amount it gave toward the presidential library of George H.W. Bush, according to people directly familiar with the contributions.

The presidential campaign of Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-N.Y.) has for months faced questions about the source of the money for her husband's presidential library. During a September debate, moderator Tim Russert asked the senator whether her husband would release a donor list. Clinton said she was sure her husband would "be happy to consider that," though the former president later declined to provide a list of donors.

Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) has made an issue of the large yet unidentified contributors to presidential libraries, saying that he wants to avoid even the appearance of impropriety in such donations. Obama has introduced legislation that would require disclosure of all contributions to presidential libraries, including Clinton's, and Congress has actively debated such a proposal. Unlike campaign donations, money given to presidential libraries is often done with limited or no disclosure.

The Clinton library has steadfastly declined to reveal its donors, saying they were promised confidentiality. The William J. Clinton Foundation, which funds the library, is considered a charity whose contributors can remain anonymous.

The Republicans are just as much in bed with Saudi Arabia as the dems.

Bush 41 disclosed publicly where the donations came from. And there is also a difference in that Clinton's wife is now running for the Presidency. Clinton has refused to disclose the donors to protect the privacy of the donors per some agreement he had with them. Marc Rich's wife also probably donated.

Good gad, it’s pretty bad when Mother Teresa gets less benefit of the doubt than the Toons.

Personally, I find it a unique little window into the evil world in which we live.

I am hopeful; however, that the situation is salvageable. All is not doom and gloom. (Had to throw that in here, don't want to be a total "downer".:)

But wait...there must be some explanation. I mean haven’t the Clintons always told us that money didn’t matter to them? Haven’t they always thought of only “the children”?

But now they are taking filthy lucre from shady sheiks? Oh, Billy...say it ain’t so!!! Say it ain’t so!!

Excellent distinctions.

Ok - I guess I’m a dope.

It doesn’t look good, but is it illegal?

If it’s legal, what’s the big deal?

What am I missing?

Yep. A friend of mine was there recently, and said it looked exactally like a ‘double wide on stilts’.

And that cost $165,000,000? And we aren’t ever going to find out where the donations came from because they are respecting the confidentiality of the donars? (Like a journalist giving breaking news from a confidential source - yeah, right!)

And, we aren’t ever going to find out exactally what happened to all that money because the bills were probably padded for every single inch of that ugly place. (And, what wasn’t padded, Sandy Berger probably stuffed in his pants!)

Just in time for election season....

Clinton Foundation raised more than $135M last year, assets over $200 million

Donations to the William J. Clinton Foundation jumped by nearly 70 percent since 2005, when the nonprofit raised more than $80 million. Contributions to the library have tripled since 2003, the year before Clinton's museum and archives opened in downtown Little Rock, Ark.

I'll just bet they have...

The Clinton trailer park, oops I meant library, is little more that a $200 million slush fund for all manner of illegal activity.

Don’t want to minimize the significance of the Saudi-Clintons connection, but it’s highly unlikely the Saudis had anything to do with the Foster murder. Contrary to what many believe, the Foster hit was essentially “made in the USA.”

The point that the Saudi embassy was located near the park was one of the few facts in the case that really is coincidental.

The Saudi contributions to the Clinton Library are hardly “breaking news.” But they do take on even added significance in view of the recent controversy over release of the documents controlled by the library, plus the “outing” of Saudi-bred Huma Abedin as HRC’s reputed lesbian partner and “indispensable” aide.
