Mike Huckabee ... Slim Chance (from The Economist)

Mike Huckabee is gaining support but the primaries will be a tough contest

TWO months ago most Americans knew nothing of Mike Huckabee. If they knew anything it was that he was running for president, was from the South and had once been very fat but had lost a lot of weight. Now, anyone with an interest has heard of the Republican former governor of Arkansas. He is leading polls in Iowa, the first state to vote for presidential candidates. And he is surging in South Carolina, which holds an early primary, and other big states. The former Baptist minister is giving another social conservative, Mitt Romney, a fight. And the prominent duel between these two is making life increasingly difficult for the national front-runner, Rudy Giuliani, who is behind in most polls across early-voting states.

His charming exterior hides a man who might be too religiously conservative, even for America. The litany of new Huckabee revelations makes for uncomfortable reading. In 1992 he said that AIDS sufferers should be "isolated" from society. In 1998 he agreed that a woman should "submit herself to the servant leadership of her husband". In the same year he told a group of preachers that he had entered politics to "take back this nation for Christ".

If these past utterances are not enough to trip up the surging governor his policies might do the job. A day after a remarkable new National Intelligence Estimate was released that sharply revised the thinking of American intelligence agencies about Iran's work on atomic weapons, Mr Huckabee had not heard of it. As governor, he seemed soft on immigration, now an important Republican issue.

Huckabee Sees WH ‘Bunker Mentality’ — posted by mdittmar

“Mike Huckabee, who has joked about his lack of foreign policy experience, is criticizing the Bush administration’s efforts, denouncing a go-it-alone “arrogant bunker mentality” and questioning decisions on Iraq.”

Words straight out of the far left’s playbook...

I still think it’s dims that have his numbers up in the polls-—they want him to be the nominee because they feel very confident that they can beat him in the presidential race.

After reading this article it amazes me even more that Huckabee isn’t running ten points behind Ron Paul!!!

Huckabee, is a cluless, populist, liberal. In other words, if Huey Long and Jimmy Carter had a love child, it would be Huckabee.

No foreign policy experience of Gov. Huckabee. If that’s not a deal-breaker for any sane voter, I don't know know what is. A major reason behind my decision to vote for Mayor Giuliani is that he gets it about the terrorists. And he got it WAY BEFORE 911. Remember when he would not allow Yasser Arafat into a NYC event? And he did it with such style. Our troops deserve a commander in chief who understands the war against the terrorists. Our nation doesn’t need any more terror attacks on our soil.

In 1998 he agreed that a woman should "submit herself to the servant leadership of her husband"

Dead meat.

This man would be hard pressed to get 25% of the vote in the general election...provide those most bizarre and unlikely occured and he won the nomination.

Where are the GOP women? Elizabeth Dole (SOUTH CAROLINA!!)? The good Senator from Texas? The female pundits like Laura and Ann?

Do you ladies believe you should submit to your husbands?

“Our troops deserve a commander in chief who understands the war against the terrorists. “

Exactly!

Huckabee as soft on terror, as a marshmellow. Weakness emboldens our enemies. Pathetic as that sounds, I think even Hillary is stronger on terror than Huckabee.

Cute! But I don’t think Huckabee is even close to being adorable, as the little doggie is. Huckabee is more of a mouse or a rat in disguise. ;)

And that’s the case. He would lose in a landslide in the general election. Honestly... I couldn’t bring myself to vote for him, *even* if Hilldabeast was the Dem nominee. And I think Republicans can win this election with *any* other (not a nutcase) candidate other than Huckabee. All this over the top religeous stuff will completely turn off the independents. Not to mention he’s a complete lightweight on issues, spews all the recycled stuff.

Just went to his website:

http://www.mikehuckabee.com/?FuseAction=About.Home

“One of his proudest achievements as governor was signing legislation creating ARKids First. The program provides health insurance coverage for more than 70,000 Arkansas children who otherwise might have gone without. Before leaving office, Huckabee supported the ARHealthNet program which gives small business owners and their employees better access to health care coverage.

As NGA chairman, Huckabee promoted his Healthy America Initiative, based on his successful Healthy Arkansas model. In 2004, Huckabee created the Healthy Arkansas initiative, an effort to encourage Arkansans to stop smoking, exercise more and eat healthier. As a direct result of his efforts, for the first time, Arkansas state employees are taking health risk assessments, are receiving individualized health information and are receiving discounts on health insurance premiums in exchange for healthy behavior. He encouraged private sector businesses by providing them with tool kits to create workplace wellness programs. The Arkansas Healthy Restaurant program was designed to encourage healthy eating options outside the home. Huckabee supported and signed into law the Clean Indoor Air Act of 2006, which prohibits smoking in most Arkansas workplaces. “

He believes the government should tell you what to do and punish you, if you don’t do it — all for your own good, of course. Hillary could hardly have said it better.

That's the liberal template...save their healthcare entitlement programs money by coercing the sheeple to quit smoking, eat right and exercise.

But enough about Al Gore...
