[10-year-old] Student Arrested After Cutting Food With Knife
Local 6.com ^ | 12/14/07

An elementary student in Marion County was arrested Thursday after school officials found her cutting food during lunch with a knife that she brought from home, police said.

The 10-year-old girl, a student at Sunrise Elementary School in Ocala, was charged possession of a weapon on school property, which is a felony.

According to authorities, school employees spotted the girl cutting her food while she was eating lunch and took the steak knife from her.

The girl told sheriff's deputies that she had brought the knife to school on more than one occasion in the past.

Students told officials that the girl did not threaten anyone with the knife.

The girl was arrested and transported to the Juvenile Assessment Center.

They’re not insane, just cowards. Too scary to discipline the real threats. This way they can say they confiscated X number of weapons at school. Plus maybe the girl is a Christian.

sending your child to public school is prima facie child abuse.”(arthurus)

What’s YOUR solution? Home Schooling? (RFEngineer)

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

Please read post #156.

Thankfully, we now have talk radio, Fox News, and the internet. The government indoctrination camps are finally getting the bad press that they deserve. There are indications that parents and non-parents are ready to throw off the government school oppression.

1) Every year the number of people who support vouchers, tax credits, and charter schools grows. Among the poor there is overwhelming support for these issues.

2) Homeschooling continues to grow at a phenomenal rate.

3) There are HUGE long waiting lists for charter schools and for the voucher and tax credit programs that do exist.

4) There are government school districts that are reporting decreases in school enrollments that are not related to the population in their cities.

5) There is “warm” discussion among some groups such as the Baptists about the morality of even sending a child into this environment. I expect to see more of this.

6) Technology has improved to the point that small groups of parents ( and some churches) are running cooperative schools, or essentially one room school houses, from their homes and churches.

Personally, I expect to see the government school system to collapse and unravel as quickly as Berlin Wall.

You ought to see the knife my 8 year old is getting for Christmas. 3” stainless steel blade, lockblade and pocket clip. And since we homeschool, he’ll be able to bring it to class every day.

I hate to say it but why is a 10 year old bringing a steak knife to school with her?

I never did that in my life. The only time I ever took a knife anywhere (besides backpacking years ago)was when I’d start a new job and I’d always keep a decent knife in my desk drawer for cutting apples and other food at lunch. Plastic is the pits for that.

I don’t think the girl needs to be disciplined but I’d like to know why she needed it (maybe they have tough meat in the cafeteria).

What can people do about the craziness?

Stop electing and hiring people who suffer from it. There used to be a thing called adult supervision, but it seems to have disappeared in the recent past.

It’s not always the teachers. Their hands are tied. We need more Christians teaching and more administrators that are Christians as well.

A lot of them are just moonbats. I’ve met so many of these moonbat teachers that I’m seriously thinking of going into teaching so I can help balance it out some.

I always wonder why so many teachers are so liberal. I even have a Christian friend teacher who’s starting to wobble a little on some things - like she’s been brainwashed.

It’s not always the teachers. Their hands are tied.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

The teachers hands are not tied. How do we know this? Answer: We can look at what other professionals would do.

Would an architect design or approve a building that he KNEW would hurt the public? Would he do this if the government ordered him, or if his client demanded it? Answer: No! He would refuse the job, and/or he would quit the firm.

Would a surgeon deliberately perform poor surgery because a government bureaucrat, hospital official, parent, or adult patient demanded it? Answer: No! The surgeon would refuse to take on the case, and/or would likely find another hospital.

Why don’t other professionals deliberately and knowingly hurt their clients? Answer:

Ethics and morality.
Professional pride among their peers.
Their licensing boards would nail them for malpractice. And, finally, in a malpractice suit they would have difficulty persuading a jury.

This is not to say that there is perfection among the professions other than the job of teaching, however, we do NOT see armies of other professionals marching opening the doors to their offices and **knowingly and deliberately** hurting their clients every day.

On the other hand we see more than 3 million teachers open the doors to schools that have zero tolerance practices, ineffective discipline policies, reading and math programs that do not work, children who are not grouped by ability, unsafe school buses,political correctness out of control, homosexual indoctrination,etc.

Teachers should do what other professionals would do. They would refuse to take on the project.

There’s only one solution—ban knives. Also, all food needs to be manufactured in pre-cut pieces.

"I'm speechless. What's going on in our country! "

IMHO, America has created too many "special" classes of people, who can literally get a way with murder. So, to keep from looking like we're "picking on them" because of their "special-ness", we have to over react to everyone. Kind of like punishing all the kids for what one kid did.

No one has the balls to stand up to those who are abusing the systems, so over-reaction is their politically correct way of handling every situation.

At least in schools around here, those plastic knives are just as verboten. Drawing a picture of a knife got a 3rd grader expelled. Best thing that could happen to him. After his parents fought it for a month in court, they stopped fighting it and started homeschooling.

I cease to be amazed by the absolute and total ignorance of the so-called educators. Since it is a known fact that those that can do and those that can’t, teach, it is no wonder we have that dumbest kids with the highest self esteem in the world.

Yep. She didn't threaten any one. School officials and the police too - have taken complete leave of their senses. I'd love to see the D.A explain this one to a jury. Cutting food with a knife is now a crime in the school cafeteria!

YOU WROTE:

The situation does beg the question as to why a 10-yr old w/be bringing a steak knife for those lunches that schools provide. I believe there was cause for the school to make an issue, but not a felony charge.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Have you seen what passes for food these days in public schools? And they only give you plastic utensils to do anything with... Tried cutting much with a plastic butter knife lately?
They now treat public schools like prison compounds. No metal utensils allowed, barracaded and barbed wired, shepherded everywhere you go, etc., etc., etc.
Welcome to Utopian socialist HELL! The public schools are a model for the new socialism, controlled by the central NEA planners, and enforced by the socialist Gestapo!
