HUCK ON 'THEOLOGY' DEGREE
MSNBC ^ | December 14, 2007 | Lauren Appelbaum and Domenico Montanaro

Posted on 12/14/2007 1:23:57 PM PST by keepitreal

After the news conference with Ed Rollins in Concord, NH, Huckabee and Rollins, his new national campaign manager, took some questions. The last question was about a Powerline blog, a conservative blog, story that he did not, in fact, have a theology degree, as he has claimed. Here is Huckabee's response:

"I have a bachelor of arts in religion and a minor in communications in my undergraduate work. And then I have 46 hours on a master's degree at Southwestern Theology Seminary. (snip) Here's what Huckabee said in a Christian Broadcasting Network interview: "I'm as strong on terror as anybody. In fact I think I'm stronger than most people because I truly understand the nature of the war that we are in with Islamofascism. These are people that want to kill us. It's a theocratic war. And I don't know if anybody fully understands that. I'm the only guy on that stage with a theology degree. I think I understand it really well."

Mere technicality or puffing?

Not a mere technicality. Preacher at a local Baptist Church was fired after they discovered he did not have a theology degree when he said he did on his resume. The congregation liked his preaching, he had grown the church, everybody was sad, but bye-bye. Read about it in the paper. It’s an off-handed comment, but if you didn’t have a college degree, but only had 46 classroom hours, would you say “I’m the only person here with a college degree and . . .”

I think Dan Rather would say it was fake but accurate, or at least he would if were about him.

I know what these “Southern Theology” colleges are all about. Pure indoctrination...KJV 1611 only...Catholics are going to Hell, etc.

My grandson escaped from one and fled into the US Navy, where he became a REAL MAN.

Well I can tell you 46 hours is not a Master of Divinity degree, which is no where near close to the requirement for that degree. It could however, be a Master’s of Theology. The M.Div is the standard Master’s Degree for ordained pastors. I have an M.Div and it was a 96 credit hour program.

Of course, the Southern Baptist Convention does not require an M.Div to be an ordained minister. It will be interesting to see if Southwest has given him a degree for being in a different Master’s program.

He never received a Master’s Degree. From the same article:

“I have a bachelor of arts in religion and a minor in communications in my undergraduate work. And then I have 46 hours on a master’s degree at Southwestern Theology Seminary. So, my degree as a theological degree is at the college level and then 46 hours toward a masters — three years of study of New Testament Greek, and then the rest of it, all in Seminary was theological studies, but my degree was actually in religion.”

I have always thought that a degree in religion was far different from an advanced degree in theology.

And Huck has stated in the past: “I’m the only guy on that stage with a theology degree.”

Oh what a tangled web we weave....

Mere technicality or puffing?

It certainly isn't truthful. So he's our last best hope in the war on Islamofascism because he's taken some graduate courses in theology?

That's like claiming you're the last best hope of curing cancer because you have a medical degree, when in fact all you've done is take some college level courses in botony and psychology.

Huck is profoundly embarrassing.

Yet another reason the MSM want Huckabee for the GOP candidate.

Will the GOP accommodate them?

Huckabee: I truly understand the nature of the war that we are in with Islamofascism

‘‘What you do,’’ he [Huckabee]explained, 'is surround yourself with the best possible advice.’ The only name he [Huckabee] mentioned was Representative Duncan Hunter of California. ‘Duncan is extraordinarily well qualified to be secretary of Defense,’ he [Huckabee] said.

Huckabee: There is nothing funny about President Hillary Clinton/We cannot be soft we must be strong and defeat Islamic fascism

Huckabee's weakness is that he can appear soft. Ed Rollins is not soft. Huckabee seems to be surrounding himself with good people, people which complement him, at least so far.

Yeah it looks like he told a whooper. 46 "credit hours" would have easily been enough for the degree. So what kind of hours were those 46? If they were "classroom hours" as you say that would bee the equivalent of one 3 "credit hour" class.

I also don't have a theology degree, but I once slept at a holiday inn with a bimbo who did. (Please don't ask me her name, it wasn't that close of a relationship.)

Very well may have inadvertently interchanged “Religion” and “Theology”.

Unfortunately that seems to be where we are heading - back to familiar territory.
