Those guys were wrong and knew it. I-69 is the main route ~ runs from the industrial heart of Mexico to the industrial heart of the USA to the industrial heart of Canada.

The route that went to KCMO/KANKAN was a sort of local thing of interest only to KCMOians.

There's nothing there folks!

Most of it follows highways that are already 4 lanes wide...although there are some controversial sections (particularly through Indiana and through Texas, but the Texas part is more due to the TTC egos than anything...upgrading to an Interstate there is easy)

I disagree.

There are vast complexes of trucking facilities, right next to immense railroad facilities.

Immense warehouses.

And the downtown airport, which mostly handles freight and private aircraft.

Then there’s the BIG airport, KCI, within a 10 minute drive from downtown.

Most East to West Coast shipping goes through KC.
KC has been the center of American Commerce since the days of cattle drives.

There’s the MISSOURI river and KAW river between downtown and the airport. Barge shipping transportation center.

We still have the American Royal Cattle Arena.
KC is the city of fountains.

Know why? The boulevards here used to be cattle trails, and the fountains were built in locations where the watering troughs and ponds for Cattle used to be.

“Everything’s up to date in Kansas City”

KC is like one GIANT TRUCK STOP the size of New Jersey.
