A home invasion turned deadly in West Valley when a man shot and killed one of two men who broke into his home.

The fatal shooting happened around 10:30 last night near 3300 South and 4400 West. Police say it started when a woman knocked on the door. After that, two men stormed into the house.

The invaders taped the homeowner's wife to a chair while they forced the homeowner around the house at gunpoint.

Lt. Lamont Cox of the West Valley Police Department said, "The bad guys were taking him through the house gathering valuables, and he was able to overpower one of them and take their gun."

The homeowner shot and killed one of the robbers, who was wearing a ski mask. The other robber took off. He and the woman are still on the loose.

A baby was sleeping in a back room of the home during the commotion. The infant was not hurt.

Police say the homeowner was the one who called for help.

"It was the owner that called us and said, 'These guys broke into my house and I shot one of them,'" Lt. Cox said.

The homeowner is 31 years old and his wife is in her 20s. He says he didn't know the intruders, but it's still under investigation. Police say the homeowner probably won't face charges.

Officials say the homeowner's wife and baby are doing fine, and victim's advocates are helping the family through the experience.

Probabaly?

Give me a break. As far as I’m concerned, this is another citizen hero doing what our goverment won’t - crack down on crime, punish criminals.

That's good police work, cover all the angles. There is always a chance the homeowner isn't telling the whole story.

With that said, it sounds like you, the police and I all agree this sounds like a righteous shoot.

He'd better NOT face any charges. I'd have hunted them all down for tying my wife to a chair...

Outstanding! Another example of a person taking upon themselves the onus of their own protection. The fact that the perp died? Maybe he can make his peace in the afterlife. But, it’s a safe bet he won’t be burglarizing any other houses in this one.

The Second Amendment is a matter of fact, not opinion, IMO. It means what it says.

I’m not losing any sleep over it. I’ll take the homeowners side every single time.
