A plan to replace career politicians with everyday people.
The guy (don't remember his name) was on the Walton&Johnson radio program today (real Reagan conservatives) and laid out a plan to replace the fat cats with "normal" people.
Please give it a read and post what you think. Thanks.
Discussed here many times, poor idea. Talk about chaos and flights of fancy elections.
Dynachrome for Emperor!
How does that commercial go?
Need to get away?
I tend to agree with Buckley's and GOOOH's sentiments.
Also, I'd like to see the size of the House of Representatives increased to 1000 members.
The Constitution calls for one elected Representative for every 30,000 citizens. Obviously that would mean we would have 10,000 Congress-critters (I think). Which I wouldn't necessarily be opposed to but increasing it to 1000 would be a good start.
***it proposes that members of political families, men (or women) with wealth (defined by GOOOH as someone who possesses over $11.5 million in assets - 250 times the median income), and lawyers, be excluded from participating in the system. ***
The above is the reason I would not vote for it. When you start excluding people from participating, youno longer have a “Representative” government. If it doesn’t represent all of the people, it isn’t right. It would be the same as saying “ No artists, no poor, no people without kids, etc” You start excluding, you can’t stop. If you are American, you should be able to participate.
That aside, there might be an exclusion for Lawyers, as they have their own branch of the system already, the Judicial branch.
The upshot to this is that nothing would ever get done unless it was really important.
That would be a very good thing.
That would mean most of the increase would come from heavily populated liberal areas, do we need that many more socialists in congress? That's a lot of new ear marks.
What were career politicians before they became career politicans?
Every day people?
I had some goooh on my shoe.
I had stepped in poo.
What to do?
Pee-yew!
I think it’s a good idea.
Not sure I like GOOOH...but term limits works for me.
Heinlein’s “Starship Trooper”
Only veterans vote and can hold office.
All others have exactly the same rights as veterans but they cannot vote or hold office.
Works for me. If you don’t care enough to serve, then you don’t care enough to decide.
I betcha 10 or 15 years on we would be looking at replacing the "normal" people who had become fat cats with another group of "normal" people. If the underlying process isn't changed it will just produce the same results over and over.
I think it would result in a massive increase in the power of the media to effect legislation.
And, we could remove the air conditioning in the Capitol building. Watch congress head home in June and not return 'til October.
I think “Congressional” housing should be made mandatory. Build housing similiar to military housing...required residency of all members. No limos, commuter bussing to offices, no speaking fees and no lobbying post departure from Washington.
Thanks for the link re:GOOH discussions on FR.
I guess the time is here where the system is SO broken and people are frustrated to the point of near desperation.
