Forget the shopping and how hectic it is at this time of the year. Remember why we rejoice and the reason for the season. Leave politics alone for about five minutes and enjoy this. Every year at Christmas Mass, this brings me to tears. This is glorious, even with crappy computer speakers.
I guess I didn’t pay attention. Doh.
Celine Dion comes to mind. Nice instrument. But she defines oversinging. fff from beginning to end. (For Celine fans, I know not everything is triple fortissimo all way thru. But there's just way too much hoorah and jumping around in everything she does--just because you can execute a fancy lick doesn't mean you should all the time.)
It's so refreshing to hear Groban just sing. There's plenty of dynamic; but it's appropriate to the song. So by the time you get to "fall on your knees . . ." the verse actually has a climax. It's because he left himself somewhere to go in the beginning.

Exactly right.

This woman had the most beautiful voice ever. She died way too young. Seriously, I weep anytime I hear anything by her.
Anyhow, she’s my standard, so when someone says ‘they’re great’ I think “yeah, but are they Ofra?”
Magnificent. Thanks for posting!
Yes, I love his “I’ll be home for Christmas” and it is for the troops - YOU WILL CRY!
Jack Jones on the All-Star Merry Christmas CD is better....and Fr. John Shiavone on Christmas With Friends CD is even better. This is my FAVORITE song of all time, so I'm critical.
Not quite as uplifting, but Karate Chimp is mildly amusing.
okay :)
I've never heard her before. Beautiful voice. Was that concert at the Hollywood Bowl? How did she die?
I also like Lee Greenwood’s O Holy Night, have it on CD but cannot find a YouTube.
First off, check out some of her other music.
She’s Yeminite Jew and I believe her family walked from Yemen (one of her songs “D’asa” is about that walk and it again, makes me cry).
As for her death....
Straight from wiki—
On 15 July 1997 Haza married businessman Doron Ashkenazi. They had no children together. Ashkenazi died on Saturday, April 7, 2001, of an overdose of crystallized cocaine.
He was suspected of having infected Haza with the HIV virus (via himself). His family did an autopsy test after his death but refused to reveal the results.
Ofra Haza died at the age of 42 on the 23rd February 2000 the cause being widely reported as organ failure or pneumonia, reportedly arising from HIV/AIDS (Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome) complications.
Her family declined to confirm or deny these reports, however, stating that it was Haza’s wish that the matter should remain private. There was considerable media interest into the circumstances of her death.
___________
Other statement was that she got HIV from a transfusion after a plane crash in the late ‘80s.
Honestly, what makes her death SO suspicious is that she was so near death when her husband finally took her to the hospital. She even one day sooner and she would have survived.
So lots of her fans feel he murdered her and got away with it.
What? I never heard that. Guess I could do a 'google'.
Well, she didn’t exactly lose her mind but she kinda turned into a Britney.

Thank you! Josh has a new song “Thankful”. It is just beautiful.
Have a Joyous Christmas! Groban’s wonderful voice is really uplifting for the Christmas season.
For an amazing and sincere performance, listen to Matt Lysgaard - O Holy Night - acoustic Xmas performance. He sings it the way I remember it from my childhood, soaring on the high notes, hitting all the notes at the right time. If only he had bothered to learn the second verse, it would have been even better.
I could not find one of Josh actually singing this beautiful song - but this link has some wonderful snapshots of him!
Very interesting - thank you.
I hope “Hannah Montana” doesn’t turn out like that!
Thank you for this.
Geesh yorkie, I am beside myself for the fact you have sent me this beautiful song. I am a music lover. I love all kinds. If I were to die tomorrow, I would go out listening to beautiful music.
Josh has a voice that brings me to tears!
You are a-ok! Thank you.
