As I was leaving the Army, the MP Corps was in the initial stages of fielding the M1117 Armored Security Vehicle (ASV). I think you'll find it pretty much offers what you proposed.

They've got something similar to that in Iraq already and with better ventilation. It's 3 x bullet-proof HummVee windshields in a U with a chicken plate in front and camo netting on top. The cammo netting is to conceal the gunner's face from snipers, which were a real problem a while back.

The MPs, to their credit, did a great job cleaning out the snipers from the Baghdad AOR. They'd use their own patrols and troops to bait the snipers. Once the sniper took his shot they'd rush in and kill him. They lost some good soldiers locating those snipers. But they got the job done and everybody benefitted.
