Boehner admits GOP money situation ‘sucks'

“Now the money sucks for two reasons,” Boehner said in a Politico interview. “People are mad at the president; they are mad at the party. And then [there is] this whole immigration fight. People just turned off the spigot.”

Boehner has undertaken a study, consulting corporate image experts, to “re-brand” the party. But so far, no big ideas have emerged. Some of his own colleagues regard Boehner as more of a transitional figure, between the Gingrich-DeLay era (in truth, both men drove Boehner to distraction) and the next generation of leadership.

A new label on a bottle of elephant offel is still elephant offel...

Change the product and you can call it what you like if people agree...

The idea that we can be sold by “re-branding” is at the heart of the problem for those in charge...we do not support the party based on its sales techiques or labels, but on the quality of the organization and the positions it takes in the real world.

When the party quits ridiculing people with my belief set, including illegal immigration and trade policy, then maybe I will look at donations again...

"The G.O.P seems to have changed,. When in power they acted like damn dems, spending like they had an unlimited budget."

I remember, as I am old enough, even pre Reagan when the Grand Old Party was excellent as the "loyal opposition".

When in power, they shifted from operating on priciples to consensus building. They seemed to forget about principle and adopted the same modus operendi as their long foes - acquisition and maintenance of "power" for powers sake at any cost.

This is the same guy who just endorsed Wayne Gilchrest, a BIG RINO, and he wonders why we don’t send money to the RNC.. What a jerk. How about fiscal responsibility, letting the voters decide who they want, etc. Get out of DC for a change.

You know if Boehner reads your email, and actually does take the time to read this thread - he could save a (lot) of that money he’s worried about, hiring stuff-shirt “rebranding” consultants. :)

This nails it. NOTHING has disgusted and turned off the base more than Bush’s speech attacking patriotic citizens as bigots for objecting to his unlimited, no-strings-attached amnesty for criminal illegal aliens by overwhelming tens of million.

He not only called us all bigots, he then implied Americans are lazy, and this violent invasion is good for us.

His spokesperson then stands up to the podium, and suggests that millions invading our country illegally, is really no different than a minor traffic violation.

This is leadership?

He that is of the opinion money will do everything may well be suspected of doing everything for money.

The "not one damn dime" movement worked.

"Whenever GOP fund raisers call I say the same thing, “You’re not getting one red cent from me until the Mexican border fence is fully built.” I then hang up."

Me too, only yours is politer. I just say "BUILD THE FENCE!" and hang up. They actually think we're as stupid as the Democrat base and not paying attention to what's going on.

The “people” are not as mad at the President as much as they are disgusted with the spineless Republicans in Congress over the past few years.

You are right about that. I am mad at the President over a few bone headed moves that he has made, but I'll get over it. The Republican Party, and those spineless politicians who infest its ranks is an entirely different matter. I will support and give money to Republican candidates, and will always vote for the Republican candidate, the alternative is too frightening. But, the Republican Party won't get a dime from me. Now, if I can just keep my wife convinced to do the same thing.

This GOP bunch has been such a dismal failure, especially with so many things that could have gone our way. They sure ain’t getting me back with some “re-branding” crap.

That is exactly what I told the phone solicitor. I’m sending money to Republicans, not RINOs.
