First, let me say that this was by far the worst debate yet. The questions were not only skewed to the left, not only almost entirely neglected foreign policy, but they were so broad as to allow the candidates to fall back on talking points. Also, there was no room for back and forth between the candidates. Absolutely awful.
With that said, Fred Thompson was the only candidate who stood out. He was funny, charming, and peppy. Here was a guy who wasn't afraid to speak hard truths, and who displayed knowledge of the policy issues--especially on entitlements. But the moment of the debate, the moment that will be talked about should he defy expectations and go on to win the nomination, was when he refused to raise his hand at the behest of the moderator. This demonstrated conviction, showed he was able to stand up for his principles, that he was a man who valued substance, a leader rather than a follower, and somebody who is running a different kind of campaign. In short, today Thompson was everything that conservatives had hoped they'd be getting when he announced his candidacy.

There is one more that is a little better than them: Tom Tancredo. He is the one that wrote the book on todays issues, literally.
But I am pleasantly surprised at the new life Fred is showing
I sounds like Fred was the leader of the pack today both literally and figuratively.
Those who have doubted when we've said Fred was the true leader among this bunch got a chance to see who led and who followed today. So when the stakes are much higher, who do you want in charge? I choose Fred Thompson.
you dont think hunter might bring in some left coast voters?
And they all laughed at how stupid the debate was because of the moderator and the lack of substantive questions.
Actually the moderator was looking for a 1-second, raise-your-hand answer.
It was good to see the panel forced to mention his name. For some reason they usually totally ignore Fred.
Can you summarize the panel for me? Forgot to tivo and Now I’m at a choir concert.
Guessing they won’t dwell on it much.
Either, actually. Defense would probably be the best use of Duncan, though.
Why does he need a minute to answer? No, it’s not a threat; and no, it’s not caused by humans.
‘I guess we have different definitions of rich. The wealthy in this country, carries what -60-80% the tax burden?’
this may be....iirc john kerry’s wife is worth in excess of 800 million, maybe much much more, but when she released a limited version of her tax return in 2004 she only had declared income of a few million.
the billionaire crowd doesn’t pay any taxes unless they really want to.
“I’m not sure how many people noticed in the moment, but I did. Every other candidate said, “Yeah me neither.”
Incredibly, the other candidates had instantly placed the mantle of leadership on Thompson without thinking.”
I watched the video and I loved that moment. Some looked to be raising their hands when he put a stop to the nonsense altogether. I just donated to the first political candidate since I can’t remember when, and it was Fred D Thompson! GO FRED GO!
They mostly talked about how dumb the debate was and it was the worst in history. I didn’t hear much more because I was televiserrnetting. Oh, and Mort hearts Huckabee.
The figure you give is for upper middle income people, who the socialists call wealthy, because they are the only ones that they can get to to tax. The truly wealthy are outside of the taxing authority of the IRS, but the pinkos want us to believe that they are the beneficiaries of the tax cuts. B.S.
That alone is enough reason not to vote for him; Medved is a globalony fool.
That's the thing you see. Not only does he have to run against the other candidates, but the MSM too. It's not a gimick, its real.
And as this thread and others attest to; people are noticing, they're getting their information outside the "normal channels" like never before.
I think Fred is the only one up there who understands that.
Not true! Huck asked if Romney thought that Jesus and Satan were brothers.
You are correct in your assessment. I remember during the last election that Teresa Hines Kerry paid a very small percentage of taxes due largely to her tax shelters foundations and big time accountants and lawyers. Same with the Kennedys. Its the The wealthiest in this nation do not worry about raising taxes. Its because it will not effect them one way or the other. When they say they are the beneficiaries of tax cuts, it is disingenuous. I always want to tell them ...then get rid of all your shelters and pay the same as I do.
Fred Thompson was okay, but the clear winner was Romney. The Iowa voters even told Luntz they are all now for Romney!
I daresay copulant . . . er, I mean copious.
